I have an 86 D60 king pin and I am looking for some sort of big brake upgrade. Does anyone know if there are any kind of brake upgrades for front D60's? Thanks Jim

Whats wrong with stock 60 brakes? There fucking huge and work great even with big tires.

It's just time to do a complete brake job and if there was an upgrade available I was going to try to do it. Thanks Jim

Dana 60 braking is strong in general so I would just get any good quality brake pad. You can try some of the brake pad manufacturers that cater to the go fast SCCA club racers and see if they can make a pad for your truck or perhaps Hawk or Performance Friction has a Dana 60 pad listing. Otherwise if you just want a medium priced pad I'd just get some top of the line Raybestos or similar pads or possibly get some "top of their line" Autozone ceramic pads and call it good.

I have to use severe duty's as the ceramic's do not hold up to my vehicles weight.

I would get some EBC yellow pads. They are race quality but quiet and good for the street. I use them on all my trucks after trying them.

My rotors have a lot stress cracks in them after one set of pads.

With a vacuum booster, and 1-ton MC, and a disc-converted D70, I can lockup all 4 38.5" Swampers on heavy-ass H1 wheels on pavement. That's damn "big" if you ask me.

Same here with an early 80's toyota vacume booster 69 vett master cyl and 44" tires. It will flat shut that truck down.

Well this is in a Quigley converted 4x4 van. It has a D60 front rear and a D70 rear 4 wheel disc's. I am using Napa severe duty front pads, and Napa premium rotors and have stress cracks throughout my front rotors after wearing down a set of pads. It does stop good but I feel there could be improvement. There is NO looking them up this has ABS too (which IMO is a joke) This pig also weighs 10,000 lbs. Thanks Jim

Good stuff. I know my stock Dana 60 / 14FF drum combo will slow my truck down faster than my 2005 Colorado will. And thats with stock vacuum booster and 1/2 ton master cylinder.

jim, those severe duty pads are raybestos and are good heavy duty pads. what you need to do is locate some cross drilled rotors. raybestos offers them, hopefully for your application. once you get some cross drilled rotors the heat saturation cracks you have been experiencing should no longer be an issue.

I know this argument has been had million times over but IMHO cross drilling your rotors will compromise the structural ability of the rotors. I'm thinking of busting out the angle grinder and some sand paper and cut some slots for venting. I can lockup my tires dry pavement too but here in BC trails are on mountains and loosing your brakes to overheating at the end of a sh**ty day where your transfer case has fallen off your truck and you cant gear down REALLY sucks!!

Opinions on slots?

stock 60 brake gear and hydroboost on a crewcab with 40's no probs braking even through some big mountain passes use the tranny lots though(would even with the world greatest brakes)on long descents. Never had a reason to lock them right up but i think all u guys just gave me one.

There is a guy on the diesel place that had some brackets made up to use 01 and up GM HD trucks rotors and calipers. They looked like a set of ruffstuff bent disc brackets
Made it so the rotor was a slip off instead of behind the hub like stock.
I know the rotors are close to the same size but the 2 piston calipers and larger pads I think work much better.
