im picking up an axial scorpion from a fellow board member later this week...id like to convert this into a replica of my own 'silver bullet' tacoma 1:1 crawler/daily driver for my sons Bday...cant seem to find any 01-04 extra cab taco bodies???

an extra cab T100 or tundra would probably work, but im really trying to make this as authentic as possible. im gonna use 3/16'' brakeline and duplicate my cage, spare tire carrier and bumpers...any other ideas from guys who know more about this hobby than myself?

Tamiya just released a new body for the CR-01. It is a new Tundra, not sure if this will help you though....good luck

Here is the complete kit:

Also, they claim this is a Tundra, but I am not sure:

Here you go Paul , this is the Losi Grappler body . I just bought that same body for my Son's RC . I'll post some pics of my son's within the next day , as soon as I'm done with it .

Parma makes a Toyota body, but it's a Tundra. I ran one on my Revo.

The body on my crawler is a Grappler, and it really doesn't look like a Toyota, the doors and extended cab area look a little like a late 90's Tacoma maaaybe.

But seeing that body painted black like that, it totally looks like Toyota skins! that's awesome. Too bad mine's all chopped up, I either had to go with a cool looking body or the most flex without rubbing.

Also the bed sides on that one look way more flared than mine too.

It's definately a Tacoma body , that's the reason I bought it for my son's crawler . It has the Tacoma body lines , door handles and brake lights . The only thing that doesen't look like much of a Tacoma is the grill , other than that it's a Taco body . I will post pics of my son's after this weekend .

I gotta agree with you Infernal. Now that I actually pay attention to the contour's and shit of the body.

Now that I got my green bead rings, it looks like that green Taco!
I saw that at the Offroad Expo too.

Nevermind, I just saw the pics of the scaled crawler that Rick is building for you in your build up thread. Mine looks nothing like yours.
That thing is badasssss!:smokin:

yeah, that grappler body would work! it has the creases over the fenders like a taco...wish it had the 01-04 grill..my specific favorite part of a tacoma of those years...thanks guys! im picking up one for my soon to be 6 year old sons Bday tomorrow and looking to get another for my oldest son for christmas..we gotta build a little course in the backyard!!

anyone wanna elaborate on their modifications to their scorpions??

picked up a slightly used one last night, let me look over it and tell me what you guys think of the mods/parts on it...its got the grappler body, but its painted gold and mine needs to be silver...also the guy at the hobby store ordered the tundra body mentioned previously for me to lok at and possibly buy...

novak mad rooster speed control, matrix TQ200? motor(cant read it all its under the tranny), bent axial links, memory foam in some proline hammer tires...i think the rest is stock?? came with a traxxis receiver, controller and servo...the drivers rear coilspring is silver and feels like a higher spring rate than the other 3 which are red...i guess this is to combat a bit of torque lean under power?

i bought a dynamite twin peaks charger and two 3300mah batteries for it today...

They're alot of fun , aren't they ? . My Son loves his . I've seen that Tundra body that you're talking about . I don't think you'll like it because it's a little wide and wide bodies tend to get caught on the tires and bind alot . I had a Chevy body on my Son's and it was a little wide but I hacked it up and it would still bind up and stop forward progress . That Grappler body is bad ass .

heres the stock RTR i got for my younger son...kinda a new body style tacoma extra cab for a body...too big/wide for a serious crawler. ive got a trimmed and lowered grappler on the 'built' RC crawler

we took them snow camping, kinda fun without the crawler setup(20tooth pinion and 27 turn motor) in the snow

my other scorpion has a 14/87 and a 60turn motor with the rooster crawler...works great in the slow technical stuff, but top speed isnt any fun for ripping through the snow and campsite

my oldest one an Ebay bid for a 55turn motor and a rooster crawler, so were gonna get into this stuff pretty heavy. especially since its winter and we cant really get out in the 1:1 crawler/camp mobile for overnighters much...

your totally right, the grappler body is way better, especially lowered and trimmed to clear the tires on articulation!

heres my truck...60turn integy motor, novak rooster crawler...bent links...grappler body...i bought it slightly used, getting a new grappler body to paint like my tacoma and bought the 8hole black beadlock wheels to match my tacoma...need to bend up some brake line to make bumpers and bed cage to match my taco...

it works good josh...thanks! my 18 year old is gonna copy the setup on his RTR scorpion...i just bought another slightly used one off another pirate member for myself...youre right, addicting! especially when its cold and rainy outside and we can make rock crawling courses out of stacked books, boxes and stuff in the house

ethans scorpions new body with the old green beadlocks still on it(need to get stick on weights for the new 8 hole wheels)...i really like this body after we trimmed it for clearance, but, unfortunately, it has knowhere near the low profile and clearance the grappler body provides for actual rock crawling performance...

his older brother actually bought him this body and some new wheels to co-erse him into trading this built scorpion for a stock RTR setup...older brother would appreciate the hiperformance mods to the 'built' truck more than little brother, so i approved as long as everyone was happy...
