I have been trying to find the specs on the caliper piston size and rotor dimensions for both the 73-87 and 88-98 front brakes. I haven't had any luck finding anything. thanks.

3/4 or 1/2 ton? 2wd or 4wd? Most of this info can be found at the parts counter of your better auto parts stores.

1/2 ton 4x4 6 lug. I have tried looking online. I am trying to come up with a disc brake conversion using off the shelf parts. I am not very impressed with any of the kits on the market, they all use very small calipers and thin rotors and are designed for street vehicles. I am constantly annoyed by parts people when I call, so I was trying to find the information myself. thanks.

nobody has any info on this or a website where its published? I am really having a hard time finding it. all I really need are the piston diameters of a 1/2 ton dana 44 caliper and 88-98 half ton caliper. when I did the brake conversion on my S10 I found tons of information, can't find anything specific on the fullsize stuff.

I would suggest using the earlier calipers, and you can buy the caliper stands for like 12 bucks from speedway.

I used a 1979 firebird master cylinder (for a 4w disc car) and 4 stock chevy early calipers. no issues so far.

for the rear, you can use the stock rotor for the 69-87 half ton, and put larger, longer studs through the stock holes, or you can use a hat off a 88 and later 4x4 front application, and slide it over your existing studs.

Can you locate this stuff in a wrecking yard? The caliper brackets, rotors, calipers and master cylinders are plentiful for GM stuff. I think the standoff on the 88-98 hat (rotor) may be shallower than the older rotor. I can give you 88-98 rotor depth tomorrow. They just slide over the front drive flange on the IFS front end.

my front brakes are going to be the stock dana 44 brakes, I was thinking of using the 88-98 discs and calipers on my rear axle, because they slide over the studs and they hopefully wont cover the axle flange where I can bolt my caliper bracket. I am really busy with work all day and don't have time to go to the parts store and look through their books or measure their parts, and same with the junk yard. my project is also currently a 2 hour drive away. I was just wanting to get some of the design work done so that when I am available to work on it I know what direction I'm going in.

grumpy, my previous plan was to use the same calipers and rotors all the way around, but i thought about the newer ones and they might be easier to install. do you know what the diameter of the piston in your MC is? thanks for your input.

on a side note I started thinking about hydroboost, does it fit onto an S10 firewall very easily? I haven't really looked into that conversion yet, just thought about it.

ROTOR DIM. dia. thickness Center hole height( laid flat)

73-87 11.86" 1.285" 4.004" 2.304"

88-98 11.61" 1.285" 3.097" 2.47"

This is from NAPAs on-line part site (at my shop) could not
get specs on piston size. if you need part #s, p.m. me.

thanks, i found that both calipers have the same size piston, 2.94". so they are really pretty similar. I think I'm going to go with the older design so that I will only have to get 1 part number for parts when its time for maintenance.
