: FN/FAL question for those in the know.
Rugger99 10-28-2008, 05:35 AM I have aquired an FN/FAL rifle that belonged to my Dad. I don't know a damn thing about these rifles,so I figured someone here (paging USMCDoc) could give me some insight on this rifle.
On the ejection port side of the receiver is a 7 digit serial number and the the following stamped in the receiver:
Fabrique Nationale Herstal
Made in Belgium
Steyr Secaucus N.J.
On the opposite side of the receiver, the following is stamped:
.308 Match
The rifle was purchased in either 1981 or 1982. It has less than 40 or 50 rounds through it. It has a two position safety and all of the stock/handguard pieces are OD green colored plastic. Rear sight goes up to 600 meters, but has no way to click in windage. It also has an 8" compensater on the muzzle with bayonet lug. I have looked at a couple of different sites that cater to the FN/FAL....but all I have gotten is a bunch of wannabe warriors that post up "look what cool shit I did to my FN/FAL....I'm a hard ass" My questions are:
1. Is this rifle an actual FN/FAL built in Belgium or a knock off
2. What is it possibly worth
3. Is it worth keeping or sell it to fund my M4 build. I don't have any attachment to this rifle, even though it belonged to my Dad, because I know he had no attachment to it. The one he was attached to is the Enfield breech loaded musket (1864) that was issued to his grandfather.....that one I am going to keep because I know Dad was very attached to it.
Any help is appreciated.
far...right 10-28-2008, 06:20 AM 1. i think its real.
2. Alot 2k+
3. I would keep it...
TNToy 10-28-2008, 06:38 AM FAL > M4
Build an M4, and go shoot 'em both side by side. You will agree that if you had to pick, you'd keep the FAL. Promise.
M4s are everywhere. A genuine FN-made FAL is much tougher to come by...
665.0coupe 10-28-2008, 06:49 AM Is it worth keeping or sell it to fund my M4 build.
NO it is not worth keeping, send it to me and I will get rid of it for you. Don't ask anyone else just send it to me:flipoff2:

You have a real Belgian FAL, those are rare and very valuable.
Camarogenius 10-28-2008, 07:31 AM The FN FAL is the best battle rifle ever made. Better than the HK 91, and miles better than any AR-15 variant.
Use the M-4 as a paperweight.

Yep!!
Bought in the 80's so you know it is not a parts build. Let see it:D

x2
Tim84K10 10-28-2008, 09:38 AM I would probably sell it, especially if it's worth a lot of money. I think you'll find much more use for the M4.
Rugger99 10-28-2008, 09:47 AM I have a couple of pics of it if someone would like to post them for me....I know, I know..... I need to get my red star back again :flipoff2: I am not a big weapons enthusiest... I have a Kimber .45 that I bought many years ago and an M4 that was given to me as a retirement gift (USMC). I've shot just about every weapon in the Marine Corps inventory, and I do enjoy shooting....but I don't enjoy it as much now....seeing as I no longer get free ammo. I would like to just keep my .45 and M4 and sell the FN/FAL, but I might keep it.
$1000 site unseen.
I'd offer more, but I don't have more - hell, I don't even have the grand, but I'd come up with it.
send pics to my username at this website's name.com and I'll post them.
serious about the cash too.
Pt_Ranger_V8 10-28-2008, 10:04 AM If it's a real, orginal FAL (which it sounds like) It's a piece of shit. You should send it to me.
And HTF do you retire from the Corps, and not be knowledgeable about foreign fireamrs? :shaking: :flipoff2:

Because nobody was kind enough to shoot at me with an FN/FAL....it was always some kind of AK varient or an H&K G3 or it's relative.....:flipoff2:

it is indeed a piece of shit. he should have accepted my $1000 offer and ran like a little girl who found a frog in her lunch box.
Nice rifle. ;)
Grimjaw 10-28-2008, 11:43 AM Very nice rifle.
usmcdoc14 10-28-2008, 12:37 PM holy fuck
you seriously want me to attempt to find the "correct" value of that gun?
TheRedHorseman 10-28-2008, 12:39 PM North of $2,000 is my starting guess.
usmcdoc14 10-28-2008, 12:45 PM North of $2,000 is my starting guess.
cheapest I am seeing them is $2,700. most in the 2,900-3k
I would sell it to a "collector" and buy a frankenfal AND another gun AND ammo AND dinner
usmcdoc14 10-28-2008, 12:49 PM Rear sight goes up to 600 meters, but has no way to click in windage.
you losen one side screw and tighten the other to adjust for windage

real
2. What is it possibly worth
more than an M4, more than a Noveske M4...see estamates above

Why yes....you have....ya fucking squid :flipoff2: Now I am trying to decide if I should keep it, since it seems to be the genuine article. Off to do some research at FNFiles.com.

ask THEM what its worth, take better clearer pictures, toss phrases like "not sure if I want to keep it" and see how many PM's you get

nope, copy and paste. I've never even been to fnfiles but it sounds like arf for fals.
Bring the funny in exchange for the help you got here.

naaa, they are good guys who are VERY willing to help. But they do frown on people taking a chop saw to a "collector" item
funny, I STILL get e-mails asking how I put a HK rear sight on a FAL
NCtoy76 10-28-2008, 07:47 PM depending on the lands and groves, i think its worth 3k.
Vermin 10-28-2008, 07:51 PM If you aren't broke as hell and borderline considering selling your spleen to make the mortgage - I really can't see why you are looking to part with that rifle. I completely understand different strokes for different folks - but since you seem to have no experience with FAL's, do yourself a favor and spend the $18 for a box of ammo and put some down range before you make the decision. You might thank us later -
ParadiseAutoElectric 10-28-2008, 07:52 PM Fixed it for ya...
As the man is a Marine IE Jar head I was NAVY hence the term Squid fits with me.
Also you had the website wrong I fixed that as well.

Actually, Gil (USMCDoc) is a squid.....:flipoff2: He was a Corpsman with 2/7 when I was with 3/7 and he is now with an SBU unit in Norfolk. And yeah, I gooned up the website:shaking:.

Rugger99 11-03-2008, 06:32 PM I have decided to sell the FN/FAL....If someone here is looking to add one of these to their collection, I will give you a good deal. Former/Retired Marines and LEO's get an even better deal. PM me if your interested.

Wow, there is no way I could ever sell that gun if it was mine. You shouldn't have a hard time selling it. Just don't tell me you are still selling this to fund your M4 build.

Partly to fund my M4 build and also to add some money to my "project account" for the house. It is a beautiful rifle, but I just don't have any desire to keep it. The bone stock M4 that was given to me as a retirement gift has more sentimental value to me than the FN/FAL. plus, I will be using my M4 on a daily basis once I finish building it....seems my supervisors want me to have a rifle in my patrol car, but we are currently out of extra rifles at our agency:rolleyes:...... but I have been given authorization to carry it once I get an optic on it and qual with it.

I have a RRA complete lower with 6 position stock and 2 stage trigger I got from Pete. I put a Stag Arms 16 inch Carbine flat top upper on the lower along with a flip up iron sight. Upper has less then 1000 rounds the lower has less then 200. I'll trade you my AR and 5 p-mags straight across:flipoff2:

Uhmmmm, yeah, better add a monetary amount as well.......:flipoff2:
animator 11-04-2008, 03:32 PM Most I could do would be 1000, but I'd have to sleep on it for a few days before making a final decision....
I'd be buying it for collector value only--already have an FAL, and have enough parts to build another one, minus the receiver.
