: FSJ to full coil spring setup?

I have a Jeep Cherokee 81 (FSJ) with 4-link rear setup and leaf springs in front.

Is it worth the effort to convert the front to coil springs?

In any case its a lot of work to convert the front to coils, but will front coil springs improve the offroad capability of my Cherokee, keeping in mind I still want to keep it street drivable?

The rather stiff front (2 leafs added for height) this is keeping my Cherokee stable and the rear axle is doing the work. I presume the coil spring setup will make the body lean over much more than it does with leaf springs.

What is your experience with a similar size of truck with coil springs in front?

Typical mods on my Cherokee

Jeep Cherokee 1981
Chevy 350 V8, Th 400, NP 205
Front Dana 60F (GM) axle on leaf springs with two added leafs for height.
Rear GM 14B on 4 link and LC80 coil springs.

Hey I do not know what you mean with f ??

I think it (f) means fantastic :D

I do not have a big budget but I still want to know how a FSJ behaves on full coil spring setup so please let me know your experience!

This is probably what you expect of Jeep hard core

Well real life is far away from magazine setup.. rather cheap for most of us... Yes I said it

Here is my mock up of a Dana 60 Radius arm setup bracket
Poor mans D3... but I have given it some taught...

I got your point about the Mountain size but that has nothing to do with my axle articulation, but I really appreciate your point, very funny, I will keep it in mind with my next post and find something more hard core thanks:smokin:

Well ince every one wants to answer in the normal P4x4 style I will do my best.

1) Will it be better? That all depends on your wheeling. What are you doing with it other than going around your yard?

2) Do you just want to do coils or coilovers? Either way you'll need to do links and all that to go with it. Probably have to change steering too.

3) That is a heavy ass FSJ, keep that in mind. No matter what way you go you'll need the right spring weights.

Do some research and decide what you really need. Don't just do coils/ coilovers because its "cool". Be honest with yourself on if you really need them or not.

Good advice, I am also thinking that it might not be necessary ( tough itching in my fingers to do it hehe) she is a heavy lady and maybe needs a stabilizing front end.

Definitively more testing is needed to see how she behaves, the videos posted at the back yard was the first time she rolled in one and a half years.

I have a set of Blazer lift leaf springs for the front that I am going to try later, these will move the front axle 2 inches forward. I am going remove the two lower leafs to make it more flexible...thicker springs than my present setup.

Testing has been postponed as I installed a Klune V under drive (1:2.7) and everything had to be moved forward 6 inches. Most of the time I am working alone so its a bit slow due to lack of a third arm....

This is a slow build one year more and she be ready..:smokin:

Next step is a ARB in the front............................:D
