: 64" chevy questions
Big Blazer 10-28-2008, 08:16 PM just had a few questions about chevy 64" springs, and before you say search i tried and found a few answers but not specifics. Correct me if i am wrong but i found that a 64" spring is 27" from front bushing to pin and 37" from pin to rear bushing, with that being said would there be a problem with turning them around? so the long side is towards the front? are there any pros/cons to this? and last question because i have found a few variences in what people say, how much lift do you net from running stock 64" spring in the rear of a 73-80 chev?
thanks for any info yall can give
cheers
spidr 10-28-2008, 08:23 PM There is no long side. 64's are centered, 32"/32"
The hangers have to be moved so the lift is whatever you decide to make it.
Big Blazer 10-29-2008, 10:36 PM oh ok great, do you know if anyone make a 4" plus lift spring in the 64" spring, i found bds makes one but it is 5.5" of lift and only 60.5" center to center
spidr 10-30-2008, 12:54 AM 60.5 is likely straight across, the 64" is along the spring.
They're generally a 2wd spring, best bet is to call a local spring shop.

Affirmative on both posts.
Gutter Runner 10-30-2008, 05:23 AM Shackle flip will get you 4" with stock 64's.

yes i realize this but i am hoping to get roughly 8" of lift total, and i want to avoid blocks at all costs
rws83toy 10-30-2008, 10:52 AM Try Tough Country EZ rides or ORD

Big Blazer 10-30-2008, 08:03 PM yes is was talking about those, sorry i though for some reason they were 64"
spidr 10-30-2008, 08:31 PM 63's is a "slang" term. In reality, they are 64" long. If you go into a spring shop and look for 2wd 63s, they'll tell you that they don't exist. Most people just assume that 63s are actually 63" long......

Mechanos 10-30-2008, 09:38 PM Measured the set on my garage floor tonight. Measured along the spring they were ~64". Eye to eye they measured ~62 5/8".

oh ok perfect, so im guessing the lift springs that bds make that are 60.5 eye to eye would be the ones to get then
Mechanos 11-03-2008, 05:40 PM Played around with my spring packs the other day... (I originally bought a set of 3 leaf w/ overload packs to replace the 4 leaf packs some fucker stole from around my house) took the overloads off and added the 4th leaf I grabbed from another truck at the JY. Anyway, I am in need of two of those plastic wear pads that snap into the ends of the leaves. I've tried 3 of the chain stores around here and nobody has or can get them. Napa could get something like it but they were ~0.8" thick! Anyone have a part number or know where I can source a couple of these pads? I looked around the JY this weekend and all the ones I found were completely worn out.
Gutter Runner 11-03-2008, 06:33 PM Did you try the stealership? My buddy that works there grabbed me some for cheep.
Mechanos 11-03-2008, 10:50 PM Yeah, they could order them in.... they want something like $7.60 each.
spidr 11-03-2008, 11:56 PM When I worked at the spring shop we sold them for about 50cents apiece. Don't know where they where from though. Pretty much anywhere that builds springs or add-a-leaves should be able to get them for you cheap
Mechanos 11-04-2008, 07:27 AM To add to the tech info in thread, I was wondering if someone can post up some measurements. I'm looking for the eye-to-eye measurement of a 4 leaf (not including the overload) spring pack WITH the weight of a full-bodied truck on them.
