So i just picked up a 350 TPI w/ harness and ecu for decently cheap. Also picked up a Powerglide tranny. Adapters for the tranny/tcase i'm not worried about, AA has them.

How are your expreiences with the weld in mounts from Novak for a SBC into a TJ? They look stout and would save me a lot of time and trouble of fabbing up mounts.

Next question is what do you think would be an optimal first gear ratio to slap in this powerglide? I have the stock 2.6 in the D300 and 7.17's in the axles. i've never owned an automatic or a V8 for that matter. So i have no clue which way to go on this.

I have no idea on the mounts but I'll chime in on the trans. With a 350, I see no real reason to install a lower first gear. You will have plenty of power to turn it. A question for you. Why a glide? Are you going for the shortest possible combo, super short shaft? Why not a TH350, it has a lower 1st gear.

T350 was my original choice... then i picked up a working aluminum housing powerglide for damn near free.

Shortness is just a bonus...

I'm not much into the go fast stuff, so a two speed should provide me with enough wheel speed for what i do.

The powerglide ratio's seem weird to me, the run from 1.76 to 2.11 (atleast from what i've looked up). does that small of a range make that big of a difference in an automatic?
