: CTM Reliabilty Question
Travis Waldher 08-09-2002, 08:26 AM ok.. I have to work OT this month. Probably enough to pay for Warn shafts and CTM joints.
On the CTM joints... how long do they last before you have to pull them to put in a new bushing, etc.?
My rigs a Daily Driver, but has front hubs, so nothing is spinning on the commute. (throwing that out before anyone asks)
Lance 08-09-2002, 08:30 AM Well I've had mine for a while now, and they show no wear. I have driven it on the street with full time 4wd drive flanges in it. As long as you lube them now and then, they should last a long time!
Welby 08-09-2002, 08:30 AM In that case, I would think a long time. Just my (I've only looked at them once, and have no actual experience with them, but like to talk about things I know nothing about) opinion...

We've all noticed:D

badassjeepguy 08-09-2002, 08:39 AM curious when the axles are rotating the caps arent spinning, so what does the hubs locked in really have to do with it, they will really only wear from turning............... with that said, imho i feel they will last a long time also...
ROCKTACO 08-09-2002, 08:51 AM curious when the axles are rotating the caps arent spinning, so what does the hubs locked in really have to do with it, they will really only wear from turning............... with that said, imho i feel they will last a long time also...
This is not entirly true,as just the force of the axle rotating is going to couse a little ware, but i agree its very minimal. They will ware the most when under a load and turning.Like lance said, grease them on a regular basis. You should be good for a quiet a while
:D
badassjeepguy 08-09-2002, 08:54 AM right, what i was meaning was they arent rotating 360 causeing a heat/ wear issue.................. good grease is your friend...... but that goes for standard joints also,.... how many have seen poweder for needle bearings? lack of lube!
I just loaded up my Warn axles with the CTMs....kind of interesting getting the full-clip rings right where they need to go at the right time but that was another story....anyways, I never saw such a wonderful sticky yellow grease as the stuff Jack loads these CTMs up with...stickier than JT-6 red Mystic grease...anybody happen to know the brand name of the yellow grease? It looks to be synthetic but that's all I know.
lowrider 08-09-2002, 05:55 PM I hate to breakthis to you ZUK, but that yellow sticky stuff-- well its not grease!!:p :p :p

Niiiiiiice Welby, whet a typical Chit Chat reply:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Scoutillac 08-09-2002, 08:22 PM Travis, as much as you wheel your junk a stock u-joint would last you a lifetime:flipoff2: I can't say much as to wear as I only have a few floggings on my CTM's, but I can say they are bad ass:flipoff2:
But seriously, those of you who have run them for a while (Lance, H8monday, ect) How often do you actualy give them a shot of grease?

My junk has been getting wheeled a LOT more than it used to. Averaging 3 weekends a month right now. :flipoff2:
Just that.. I am being careful not to snap axles in the front end without having the $$ to replace them with new ones. I can't seem to find Waggie D44 front ends at the moment. Figured Warn and CTM and keep the stocks as spares.
Scoutillac 08-09-2002, 08:52 PM Quit bitchin and wheel that pos, your dad wheeled it harder than you do. Maybe next time you go wheelin you should wear a skirt.??
snacksnack 08-09-2002, 10:53 PM ? IN order to grease the ctm do you have to pull them apart or do they have a zerk?
rockbiter 08-09-2002, 10:57 PM they have a zerks at the end of each cap.. needle zerks...
who else hear had a bitch of a time putting your CTM's in...

I know your just flippin me shit. but damn.. when was the last time you've been wheeling with me? I'll have pics coming back from TSF early next month.
(ok.. I want Warn and CTM so I can try to take that cliff ledge on the 7-up trail that most everyone else seems to blow their front ends up on trying)
I just added 9 more pics to this link...FYI... http://www.dreamwater.com/zuk/warnaxle.html
