: stuck in the garage

So I get my 1 inch body lift on after some issues, get my radiator shroud lowered, go to start the truck to get it out of the garage, and my truck won't go anywhere. I can shift through the gears, but the truck won't release out of neutral. Does anybody have any ideas? Has this happened to anyone?

i take it you have an auto? try gunning it with your foot on the break, i had a similar thing happen to my 96 ram, and it endedup being a torque converter that went south, but it could be anything with yours.

Pull the stick out and realign the shift rails...

At this point, I can shift though the gears, 1st, 2nd, reverse etc. By realigning the shift rails, will this help the clutch engage?

First since you added the body lift have you adjusted the clutch linkage? Turn the clutch rod until the clutch pedal has about 1/2" of free play at the top.

Second I'm going to go with the obvious here, but did you make sure the t-case is in gear and not in neutral?

In a two inch body lift you actualy get a splice piece for your clutch linkage. Like Joe said you need to adjust your cluch. Also did you disconect your linkage when you did the lift?

Thanks for the advice guys. I will adjust the clutch. I did get a little piece of cylindrical steel. Is this what you use for the splicing? Okay now for the gimp question, do you adjust the clutch linkage from inside or outside? Ian

I *think* you should have the "can't shift into a gear" problem with a body lift and an unadjusted clutch, vs. a "can't get it to engage" problem..

But anyhow, it's adjusted "behind" the gas pedal, in the cab.

You probably will have to crawl under the rig and loosen the jam nut below the body where it attaches to the "relay", as well as adjusting the jam nut at the top in the cab, before you can turn the center rod.

I'd guess that unless you got the shift linkage really off, and dropped the body on it, you should have engagement, just not be able to shift into gear w/o it grinding before you adjust the linkage.

I'd double check the t'case - the body may be hitting the shifter.. try 4-low and see if you can move it still.

When you push the clutch pedal in it pulls the clutch release linkage up which is why the problem showed up after lifting the body.. He now has the clutch linkage pulled to the point of release so he now needs to lengthen the linkage and the readjust the clutch

I couldn't remember if it pulled up, or pushed down.. it's been ages since I had to touch the 4spd - it just keeps working. :D

I *have* had problems in the past with the clutch rod hitting the gas pedal and causing the idle to go up when you press in the clutch though..

And when those servos pop, bands engage, and everything gets slammed with torque, something is going to break.....
