: DIFF idea!!

If you are really bored and feel like making a few bits,Here are a few pics of a diff i designed for a mate! Its a nice way of getting 80+degrees of steering lock. If you changed the gears to give a reduction on the outers (smaller bevel gear on the main axle) then nearly 90 is possible. Runs a gearhead motor for the torque, and the main reduction gear is offsett right to one side to give max diff clearence (ala moon buggy rear). It uses steel gears and roller bearing for everything so its STUPIDLY strong!! :evil:

Yeah, that idea has been tossed around before. Not sure why no one has tried it yet. I have seen tractors made like that.

Complexity, and the large scrub radius is going to beat on servos. That, and you're going to have difficulty clearing suspension links with a big tire turning that far. At least you would if you kept it at any kind of reasonable width. It is cool though.
