: Reverse problem

I'm new to the RC thing and just bought a used ax10 on ebay.
The item description says it was in good working order.

The problem I'm having is when I try to drive in reverse, I have to hit the trigger several times and when it finally goes, it goes fast with no speed control.
Forward works just fine. I can crawl it or go fast.
It has rear steer and in the description is said "the radio has the reverse switch replaced with a toggle for the rear steering."
I asked if reverse worked on it before I bought it and he said yes.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

It came with a traxxis tq3 controller.
Also, I can't find and on switch on the vehicle. The esc has a set button that I pushed to get it to come on. I was expecting there to be a slide button for on/off.

Thanks for any help.

I have had a somewhat similiar problem with the AX10 i just picked up. I got the truck for cheap w/o receiver and controller which i picked up on ebay. I got the cheap axial brand receiver and controller. My truck has no problem in forward (ESC works great) but when i put the trigger in reverse it does not respond immediately but does finally go into rever in a second or two. Sorry for the thread jack but maybe someone might be able to shed some light on both of our problems.

Thanks,

its prob the double tap reverse(hit it twice) there should be a way to program the esc or remote to do instant reverse

what esc are you running? my sidewinder is programable for fast,2 sec delay, or no reverse at all.

It came with a traxxis xl5 esc.
Is this one programable? If not, what esc can I run to fix this. It sucks if I'm trying to save a roll, the reverse is to slow to save it.

There are plenty of good ESC's to choose from, just depends on how much you want to spend. I've run a Castle Creations Sidewinder and I'm running a Castle Creations Mamba Max now. You could also look at the Tekin FX-R Pro. Pricewise, out of the 3 I mentioned, the Sidewinder is cheapest, but you also need to purchase the Castle Link software and cable to hook it up to your PC to adjust the settings. With the Mamba Max, all you need is a USB cable to hook it up to your PC. With the FX-R Pro, you can make some adjustments right on the ESC, but you really need to get the Tekin Hot Wire box, which allows you to hook it up to your PC.
I don't have any experience with the FX-R. I have no complaints with either the Sidewinder or Mamba Max.

you dont "need" the castle link to setup the sidewinder, hold forward(gas) as you turn it on, it will go into setup mode. refer to the booklet for options on setup.

True, nobody "needs" the Castle Link, but it's a lot easier (and quicker) to program your ESC with the Castle Link, not to mention you can save your setup on your computer......

I wouldnt own one without the link... it may not be needed but it opens up a lot more options..

traxxas ESC's kinda blow.. it could be programing traxxas has a step by step video on there sight on how to do it..

that esc also has three modes sport race and beginner.. I dont think that would be the issue..
