Reminds me of the one I rebuilt with my ex-g/f's son for his b-day back then. Took us 300 hrs in the body alone with sandblasting everything etc.

Wow - great build and another UK member too! A friend had one of these, the last I saw of it was 1995 and his had the Fred Flintstone holes in the floor too. Nice one - I'll watch your progress.

We onced measured a SWB GQ Patrol and the wheelbase does exactly fit a LWB Samurai:grinpimp: There was a short thought about doing the same with a Samurai tub on a Patrol chassis.

This is badass.
Are they/you going to put bigger, wider axles under it? is that why it was widened?

i am amazed at the difference from the beginning to the point you are at- that's not a restoration, it's a resurrection! it's incredible that the rust heap could be restored to such a point. great work, keep the updates coming!

made some more progress this week, we have done one of the inner wings and started the other

A friend made the lower lip for the front panel, he's also working on making the suzuki grill 8" wider

One more from the back, you can really see how wide the LJ is :D

this reminds me of the Jeeps in Pakistan thread in jeep hardcore tech. if no ones seen that thread then you need too. suzuki simon is doing a fucking awseome job. that thing is SWEET. and the metalwork is amazing

Looks good mate, its going to be hard to get the V6 to fit with out making the chassis and body wider

Hi guys,

sorry i've not updated my post for some time, i have been ill the past few weeks :(

but im all better now and work has started again, we have been working on the bonnet and both wings this weekend. the bonnet need about 4 1/2 litres of filler to get the right shape :eek:

almost finished the wings and bonnet off :D

and i've started tarting up the wheels :grinpimp:

We put all the wheels on for the frist time tonight to see what it looks like :D

We also rolled the LJ out off the lockup today so we could have a good clean up, that filler dust gets everywhere

There’s quite a few single car garages that you can rent in the UK which are good if you only want to store a car, I have got unit on my local industrial estate that I rent its quite a lot of money £180 ($260) a month but its handy

Little update

The front panel is all done and it really finishs off the LJ, it looks so cool :dustin:

Got these goodies last week, mission on to get the brakes done and then we can test drive the LJ

finished 90% of the brakes today, was one fitting short :(

I have a local suppler called Rally Design they can supply all the brake fittings and stainless steel braided hose from Goodridge.

All the fitting on my LJ were M10 x 1 thread, just make sure you order the correct concave/convex fitting so you get a good seal. It looks like Rally Design can ship outside of the UK if you cant find anywhere locally that can supply you the parts.

Just a little update, iv not had much time to work on the LJ but all the lights are now finished, the wing mirrors and a few other little bits are now on. I've found a company that are going to make and fit the front and rear glass which is a result :D

Yeah I thought about having a go at doing the glass but if I mess it up I cant weld it back together again lol + I don’t have any of the windscreen rubbers and this company are going to supply a universal one :D

Yeah i looked at polycarbonate, but i couldn't use it for the front because it would not pass an MOT so im just going to have them both done in laminated glass

Hi Guys, not much of an update im afraid but i have finished off all the wiring and power steering last week, I have also fitted the battery and battery tray last night :D

I've started painting an original wheel to use as a spare, and new steering damper arrived

I finished off the spare wheel today

I’ve been have a lot of problems with the brakes, iv given up on the SJ master cylinder & Servo setup after trying 4 different SJ master cylinders, so iv gone back to the original LJ80 master cylinder. I got it fitted tonight just need to bleed them and hope it works. :D

Had the front and rear glass made today, it looks great now :dustin:

No problem, they made them long before zuks, and they still make them to this day....someone wants to build a zuk? Used to be no problem, and they were cheap too. Now they're more rare, harder to find parts for, and consequently, base price of un-molested and built up rigs has gone WAY up over the last few years. :(

So now that you've built one and got all the bugs worked out of the process, I'm sure the second one will go much quicker. I'll take one that width, with the front cowl stretched 5", and the rear quarters stretched about 12-15" in length.

Green Lane is a type of Highway in the UK its better know as a Byway or BOAT (Byway Open to All Traffic). Byways are an unsurfaced mud track, they can be used by walkers, horse riders and vehicles.

I have made a start on making the front grill wider this week, its going to take a lot of work to make it look right but I think it will finish off the front :D

I've done both ends of the grill last night and it fits spot on :smokin:

Have you ever actually taken a look at what it would take to import one? I don't know about Canada's laws, but it's exceedingly challenging in the U.S. to import a vehicle these days, and nearly impossible if it's less than 25 years old. :mad3:

For phil_j's sake, I hope Canada's laws aren't as needlessly restrictive as ours. :shaking:

oh there's no way in hell I'd even attempt to order one from India. They cost $15,000 new without trying to ship it. The parts however are still being made and can be ordered from India.

They use the DOHC MPFI 1.3L engine though (beats the 1.6 8V) so engine parts for the SOHC are no longer a production item. They still make parts for them but they'll be phased out eventually.
