Well I am lookin at rear locker options for my 1980 fj40. I have a lock right sitting in Crawlin Cruisers basement for the front, but I need a locker for the rear. I wanted to go with a selectable locker because I will be driving on road alot, and for the price of a detroit..... $1000 CAN :flipoff2: I can't see buying something that expencive when I could just weld it up. Well guys how much and where? (No ausi wreckers pls :p )

if you could find an e-locker from the rear of an 80 series, a friend of mine is running one of those in his 40, just change the flange over, and it will all bolt right in (the full floating axle anyways)

dont ask me to look for one, over here they often sell for = or more than a ARB airlocker price, they are ten times rarer (only seen two and one was in my mates car) the other is a guy down the road, they activate slower than a ARB, but are cool if you have compressor failure (he runs one ARB and one cable converted electric locker, and his compressor fried early one morning and he was able to keep wheeling pretty hardcore stuff, whereas when mine failed i was limited to unlocked)

i just thought e-lockers might be more common over there seeing as a lot of the toy guys use the front ones in thier rigs so tehre must be a few kicking around??

You can put an electric locking diff from the rear of an FJ80 in either the front or rear of a J4 or FJ55. If rear, you need a full-floating rear axle. If front, you need a different long-side shaft - either from a J7 which featured the factory locker, or one of CV Unlimited's special inner axles with long splines for the locker clutch.

Wiring is pretty straightforward. I've got one in the front of my 55, paid $600 for it used. You can find them cheaper in junkyards if you take your time.

Not all 80s had electric locking diffs.

Mine works fine, although I think my wiring job could use a re-do. :)

Hey Ryan,
Are you sure that lockright isn't mine ;) ? Dan asked today and I am still not sure what I am going to do with it... but I will keep you informed. As for a cable locker, only ever seen one and the e-locker is about $2200(can) from the dealer. So it might be ARB unless you can find a used e-locker.

some Rover boys on the Rover forum have some Macnamaras on order. I saw them at SEMA and the cable version was sweet!
