I also posted this in the toy section, but...

Rancho 9000 shock question
OK.....So here's the scenario. At full stuff in the front end, the springs hit the nut on the bottom of the pitman arm and I cant steer.
So my question is,

Would the Rancho 9012's take the abuse if I just lower my shock mounts and have them bottom out before the spring hits? Or is that too much stress on the shocks?

Thanks.

What about a bump stop with that?

No, they won't. Eventually you'll hit something at speed, and drop the whole weight of the frontend onto the shocks.

Here's how I ran my Toy's bumpstops. 2x2 steel and $20 worth of poly bumpstops...

They should be ok if you always go slow.. but like dr.evil said one day your gonna hit something quick and that shit will break... I will third the bumpstop idea.

i just zip tied a couple old shock rubber bushings around the upper stems of the shocks. in day to day commuting the shocks never travel up high enough to contact them, and when at full stuff they just *barely* make contact. cushy, too. no jarring impact like my old axle mounted bump stops.

maybe i'm over flexing the front springs into early retirement, but i don't really care. they've been negative arched for many years now anyway, and the rears are soon to be swapped in.:D

dont be such a cheap bastard, put in bumpstops.. then again steering is overrated!!
