Dragon Bob 08-09-2002, 04:12 PM Trying to locate if this product ( Auto - Fridge) is sold in USA along with 120 Volt Adapter
http://www.quirks.com.au/autofrdg.htm
Expensive as all get out but seems to do the trick. EZ to find in Austrailia but not so here. This technology is old hat on boats but have not seen RV or 4X4 applications in USA.
Appreciate any help

The smart ass response is to buy a 4X4 mid 80's Toyota van with the built in fridge between the front seats! :flipoff2:

No, the best would be to get one of the early-mid 80's Nissan valns that had the fridge with a built in mini oven in it. You could keep the beer cold, and heat up a toasted cheese sandwich while rolling down the trail :) .
Only problem with them is that they are nearly impossible to find because Nissan bought almost every one of them back because of a problem with engine fires. Nissan bought the cars back from the owners at a very good price, after only a few cases of the fire happening. That is what I call customer service!
You can occasionally find them, because some owners liked the van so much that they decided to keep them by signing a document that relieved Nissan of any liability of any defects in the vehicle.

emsoffroad 08-12-2002, 09:48 PM Come on. There has to be a few truckers out there. When I get home I will ask my friend where he got his. All I know is that it is big and he didn't no $1000 for it. Check around at the truck stops.
morgan 08-12-2002, 09:50 PM Guys, those are Australian dollars. Big difference, like AU$1.00 = US$0.54. Quit yer huffin' and puffin'. The world is a big place.
I like my ARB fridge.

fugly 2 08-12-2002, 10:49 PM The ARB fridge is made by* Engel * and ARB only put their stickers on them .The best fridge you'll buy .My fathers first one is over 18 years old and still runs like a clock .He's retired now ,but was an interstate trucker and the fridge was always in use 24/7 .You can buy cheaper fridges ,but if you buy an Engel ,you'll only ever buy one fridge ,as it'll probably outlive you .
morgan 08-13-2002, 06:55 AM Actually my 42qt ARB was made by Sawafuji Electric for Engel and ARB.

Scott@Rockstomper 08-13-2002, 09:38 AM Surplus Center lists a Norcold 1.8 cu ft. RV Refrigerator, P/N 1-2128 (new) that runs on 115AC, 12VDC, or LP gas. $370, 24x24x18 overall, 53 pounds, in beige. 1-800-488-3407.
1.8 cu ft. translates to approx. 51 liters, BTW.
Typical dorm fridge is around 2-5 cu ft., depending on which school and/or how much you pay for it.
Most of the cheapie cooler-fridge units in the truck stops, are a thermocouple type device ("heat pump") or similar, which is much less expensive, but much less effective, than a compressor and air-circulation type (like a home fridge). I'm not sure which this particular one is, but guessing from the price tag and the fact that it'll run on LP gas, it's probably the compressor type.
The ARB fridge, regardless of who makes it, is a compressor type. Very effective, but expensive to match.

Well in the word of these fridges, the word is small. these are in San Diego:flipoff2:
They are NOT depended on outside air temp. No matter what, I can have my icecream in JV in AUG.:D
scwafish 08-13-2002, 05:48 PM So how much are the freezefridge units Bill? Any less?

Like the other guy said...$1500 for a 60-liter:eek:
They are durable as hell and a lot of racing teams use them in their prerunners/race trucks. The best thing about them is the lid does not pop off on you like I've heard the ARB does.
AxlesUp 08-14-2002, 03:08 PM i bought my coleman 12 volt fridge at walmart, but you can get one at any truck stop... it works great in my airconditioned truck... i use the supplied inverter to plug it into the house current to pre-cool it before a trip cuz it takes it about a day to get good and cold when you fill it up with warm stuff... i paid less than $100 for it.... i think its 60 quarts and cools 40 degress below outside temps..
peace
