the idle goes up when I turn on either the lights or the fan. I don't mean 3-500 rpm, rather it goes up to 2000 rpm. Would this indicate a bad alternator? Something is obviously tied into the carb to make this happen. Any suggestions?

my carbed zuki's all do that but my 92 EFI doesn't. I though at first it was because the alt is so small and the power output from the lights or fan makes the engine RPM's go up but the EFI alt is the same as the carb.....this drives me crazy when I drive at night......

My 2 1988 carbed models do not change rpm under these conditions nor does my 1990 efi.
You have something going on. Or I do. My batt. and charging system are fine.

Yep, its supposed to do that, there is an Idle up switch on the carb, and it comes on when you put a load in the electrical system.. READ YOUR MANUAL!!! Ok, I got that out... Also, it can be adjusted to only hang around 1100-1300 which would seem more normal than 2000.... Its a simple adjustment on the back of the carb itself is the vaccuum unit that is bolted to the carb... You can figure it out from there...

the switch is that thing on the very front of the engine, the thing with the two vacume lines . if you disconect the plug it wont work ,if you were to wire a switch to it you could control it and adjust the rpm .........:D
