: Weekend Report 11/1-11/2/2008
uglyscout 11-02-2008, 08:39 PM I have officially moved back into loserville I didn't really work on my truck all weekend. On Friday I did spend a solid 10 hours cleaning, organizing, building storage in my garage to be able to park 2 scout in my garage.

Saturday I went to Home Depot, Bed, Bath and Beyond, I'm not sure I will have time.... Dropped a ton of money on stuff for my never ending home remodel.
Sunday (today) I did go and unload my Crewcab from my trailer and give it the once over in the day light. Only found one dead mouse in the cab. But of course it started raining so freakin' hard I couldn't take any pictures or crawl around under it to check things out. It does run strong and stop like nobody business.
What say you? Any tech? Any trail reports? Anything??
Well I can give a weekend update. Picked up a 79 Scout II for the price of free.. lil fire damage under the hood but thats all good. just the harness from the firewall to the alternator and distributer. Ordered cap, rotor, upper radiator hose, and sparkplug wires.. I think ETA on it running is Thursday.

I towed it with my 73 powerwagon, she finally got some usage out of her this weekend.. looked good with the scout on a vintage car dolly :)... good ol beast.

TERRA-IZER 11-02-2008, 09:33 PM Picked up a 1956 S-110 on the other side of the state that a out of state buddy bought.
Mechanos 11-02-2008, 09:41 PM Browsed the JY on Sat. Didn't see anything I "needed" but I did unbolt and carry home a pair of wheel tubs from an older Chevy pickup that were in very good shape. I'll probably use them when in my axle swap since I've moving the axle and will have to cut out the existing wheel tubs.
BLK Scout 800 11-02-2008, 10:01 PM Nothin but watch it rain.....
Binder 11-03-2008, 12:01 AM Wheeled...
I was supposed to wheel, but thought it better to tear apart the scout instead. turned it into a hover scout trying to install my aussie lockers but ran into a problem.

the stock thrust washers for the side gears were too thick in my stock carrier and i couldn’t even get the pinion shaft in between the locker, let alone have any tolerances. but a call to aussie lockers got my in touch with a tech and hes going to next day air me out the right size. he apologized a million times for messing up my wheeling trip and was very very helpful. A+ for aussie locker customer service.
i also finished up my dash with switches and gauges and got my electric wipers installed.

also made a trick little fuse holder for the Chevy s10 fuse block in the stock scout dash, think it looks pretty good. and its easy to get access.
tsm1mt 11-03-2008, 02:05 PM Found a little time on Sunday to work on my GN.
Cut some gussets and finished burning in the outboarded spring hangers.

Now to hang the springs, weld the perches onto the axle tubes, and ponder putting this thing together and getting out from in front of my shop. :D
I don't know what was more fun.. having to unload the welder from the cart so I could drag it out into the driveway far enough to reach the front hangers, or that it was raining while I was doing it..

I ended up making a 30' extension cord out of 10/3 SOOW cord that would allow me to reach anywhere in the garage and all the way out to the end of the driveway. My trailer rework last fall was what prompted me to finally make the extension cord.
Urban Wheeler 11-03-2008, 02:25 PM Spent Saturday at the lake covering the pontoon for winter and watching my dad and brother blow leaves. We have two of the big push style blowers, they kick ass..
Sunday I surfed the web looking for a source for spindle nuts for a HO72. Autozone has them on their website but at $39.99 each I'll pass. Turns out that the one that was missing was in the box of brake pads for my rear disk conversion. Fortunately NAPA had some seals in stock, but they were $20 for the pair.
I ordered parts for the front axle, including a 14b detroit, then ChiScouter asked if I wanted him to look for one. The only catch is that it comes with a whole axle. If he does I'll look at making a front out of it.

I have a 25' store-bought extension cord for the welder/plasma that lets me move around the shop well enough (as long as there isn't a pile of crap to move the cord over/around/through like usual).
..but I traded up to the big C25 bottle and have it mounted on the cart, which makes things relatively nice most of the time, but I don't have a cement approach to the garage/shop - just a dirt/gravel driveway, and I don't have one of Jeff's fancy all-terrain welding carts.
So it's the part where I have to get it all off/out of the cart and then drag it around by hand that sucks.
I have 30' leads on the stick welder, but I'm too out of practice, and too lazy to bake my rods ahead of time.
Mechanos 11-03-2008, 02:57 PM I also have a S bottle for my MIG. For moving it around the driveway during my trailer work, I strapped the bottle and the welder to my handtruck.:flipoff2:
It rain hard all day Friday and Saturday morning. ( I know the rest of you know what rain is, but I forgot. This is our 2nd rain since the season begin in June.:flipoff2: ) So I headed off to the 4x4 park for some fun. It was a total blast as there were a ton of trucks out there churning up the mud. We headed back out on Sunday, but it had dried up a lot, still some big puddles. Good 2 wheel drive speedway action:smokin: Tryed some rocks, but the mud made it hard to stay on line. My garbage can is half full of mud, hope the garbage truck can pick it up.
As for baking the rod, just warm them up on some scrape iron and wait a minute, they will dry out. That 7018 stuff needs to be bake overnight. Just use some 6011:evil:
binderbound 11-03-2008, 04:25 PM Moved out of ugly scouts spare room finally. Moved into bernes spare room. Spent a lot of time with the NonPirateScouter. We're trying to work it out. Tried to wheel with a big group of clowns sunday. That was a cluster fuck of epic proportions:rolleyes: work today.
Blind Driver 11-03-2008, 04:31 PM Filled the rust holes with cawk, put new black carpeting with used carpet padding in the Scout. I still need to install the sides in the hardtop and use camper tape between the top and the body.
I was hoping to never have to use this top again :(

No. I didn't take my camera cuz it was raining like hell. Just close your eyes and picture a bunch of 70's dodge trucks from the 80's. And some 80's toyotas. 25 guys who all want to do their own thing and its all mud or hill climbs. Super clique group that wasn't interested in waiting for any new people.
71durabakscout 11-03-2008, 07:56 PM spent saturday yanking the drive train out of the scout. Didn't have the room to yank the engine and transmission all at once so I dropped the transmissiona and transfercase first. Frame is high enough to clear the transmission just not the transfercase stick so I rolled the bastard on it side. In the process of rolling the heavy pig it rolled back and pinched my hand on the frame. Spent saturday night getting stitches and got a paid day off sunday and finsihed yanking the engine.
ChestonScout 11-03-2008, 08:15 PM sent the Scout to a body shop to get the frame bent back into position.
All went well
anyone happen to have a prestolite distributor that they could hook me up with? i would appreciate it..
Ben Segrest 11-03-2008, 09:39 PM Nothing Scout related. Costume party Friday. Partied (sp?) Saturday night too. Sun. went to the marsh to help some friends finish a duck blind. Oh, and moved stuff from my old house to my new house here and there.
I also did this last week. I'm sure HOS will be impressed:laughing:

Amber says she misses Zeke -- and you I guess. Don't be a stranger.

RustoleumWhite 11-05-2008, 11:31 PM About the only thing Scout related was to walk out in the pouring rain to my old trail truck parked on the side of the house (luckily under cover), with a tape measure to get an idea how much I could cut :D
Did have my son with me, and he prompted me to run over to my work truck and grab the camera:
what a ham.
