My friends 6cyl auto either doesnt start (no click or anything) or it starts and idles and dies. This doesnt happen consistantly though, most of the time it runs fine. The battery and alternator were tested at Kragens are said to be ok. When it doesn't start, he can jump it and it will start but the battery is pretty new.

Could it be a combination of things, the switch could explain the starting problem but whatabout the idling and dying? I guess there are a lot of things that could cause that huh? Any tips on troubleshooting this?

does it run fine with your foot on the gas? If so, it's your IAC (Idle Air Control) motor. It's pretty cheap and easy to install.

As for the intermittant starting issue, sounds like a bad ground or ignition switch.
