Spent most of the day at Piazza's getting to know my bender and Bending 101 (I owe Tin Bender ). Got the fenders bent, and the front hoop. One (or maybe two) screw ups yielded a front hoop that fits a CJ perfectly if anyone wants it ($50). Figured out the layout for the main hoop and (I think) the side bars. Next.... I start cutting. Hopefully next weekend. Once I begin the assembly, I can't drive it again until it's done.
Did you know you can carry many 20' sticks of steel on top of your Jeep on the freeway? :D

Nope - the 420s on my work bench ready to install. Only piece I haven't purchased yet is the slave cylinder. Decided to get the cage done first.
No pics. Jeep still looks the same. Next week. :)
You'd be surprised who I know. :D

Well it's about time Paul!
Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I can carry all the 20 footers you need. I need to use a bender. You can use your bender in my garage, it is closer to S.F.

Thanks, Matt, but I'm set up at Steve's and there's a few other projects we have in mind too. Time (mine and Steve's) permitting, you're welcome to come down and use it.

Which bender do you have? I got a JD2 model three.
Did you make anything to your second bend inline with your first? That's the biggest trick. If you bend one down leg for your cage, you need to make sure your second is on the same plane or else it'll look like a walking stick figure.
There's also a pretty cool compass you can get to check the angle you bent. I got mine at K119 in San Bruno, it's about 20 inches long, clear with graduations and has a locking pivot screw.
I've been fabbing for a long time in my garage, if you ever need to bounce some ideas around, feel free.

I also have a Model 3. Bought it about two years ago, but haven't done much with it. Cool toy. :D Using a level, I was able to get the bends inline. Lays perfectly flat on the concrete. I also have a compass like that. Very cool. I don't use it much though - taking measurements off a square works better for me.

Paul where is it set up, I remember you saying it was in Livermoore, still there?
Are you useing sowtware to lay out? I know there is some out there.

It's now set up at Piazza's in San Jose. Not using software - using the Tin Bender article from Pirate4x4.com. :D
