sorry, my bad, i didnt clarify, was i was trying to ask;...was can you put an alternative gearbox in like a chevy astro van? i heard of people doing that, but not sure if its worth the hassle, or if you can simply unbolt old-bolt in new?....

Yes, you can do that if you intend on moving the front axle forward. Why would you want to change from the jeep steering box in the first place? I personally would NOT use AGR for any of my vehicles. Have your box rebuilt by someone that knows what they're doing. They are easy to screw up if your not familiar with steering boxs.

Alot of folks run Durango boxes...I think they have slightly quicker lock-lock. Others opt for the J10 box, whch also have a quicker ratio, but they are getting hard to find.

I used a power steering box from a mid '70s wagoneer. most of your cj7 steering boxes will interchange with mid '70s to mid 80s gm car stuff, just be sure and check whether you have flared or o-ring fittings.

Do a search on the Durango box.

I used a steering box from a 96 chevy 1 ton in mine just because i had it and it works. I don't know if its much different than the jeep one as far as the ratio goes though? I did have to fab a new mount for it but it came out ok. Id use a box from a semi truck if i did it again just cuz i saw the guy with a cj5 runnin 49's with no hydro ram and he said it steers just fine. Sounds like less parts to mess with and possibly break, although it is quite large and would need definite custom work to fit and work properly.

holy crap thats pretty cool, ive never seen or heard that anyones done that, after school today, i need to research that, plus depending on the cost of a box, i should be alot cheaper than running a hydro.
