ok, had some slop in my chevy dana 60 passenger side knuckle so i decided to tear off into it. the lower bearing is tight and looks good, the teflon cone looks good on top..only thing i can think of is the spring has fatigued. I cant find that thing anywhere locally, i will have to wait to the end of the week to get the part from boyce equipment.

My question is, could i put a couple of large washers on top of that spring and let the washers act like a spacer between the top cap and the spring to take up the slack in the spring until i can get one in and tear it apart again. i have it tore apart and need to get it back together to move it but i would like to take the slop out of the knuckle.. any opions on why this wouldnt work..

and i know, just wait and get a spring, but i had to pull my arb out of the front to put a new o-ring in, and i need to get it back together tomorrow, but wanted to temporarily fix the slop....

I think it should work. Try it and let us know. It should only take a few minutes to find out.

YA KNow what Bgreen I am convinced if you want to run tires like that you need rockwells!

Somebody in AK has a set somewhere they would sell cheap...

welded lockers and you can run as big of a tire as you want!

I think you are right! But I think Im going to upgrade to 35's and ram assist first :(

The rockwells will have to go on a completely new buggy....
Im thinking: Rockwells, Terra Tires, Dual Tcases, 4links front and rear, Full Hydro front and rear Steering, Coilovers, Injected 540" Caddy, Th-475, and a touch of NOS :D

Do I have to narrow the front axle or is that just for jeep guys?

Now, come to think of it, I would swap in rockwells if I found some for the right price or trade for a dana 60 and 14 bolt. There is a swap meet in Aanchorage tomorrow, maybe I should go!

I have heard that you can put washers under the spring to tighten a loose king pin joint.

You may also want to check your knuckle. Make sure that it is not bent IE: opened up where it goes over the inner knuckle. I thumped my 60 wearing 44's and it bent the knuckle. (kid driving, long story) It opened up and there was too much play between it and the inner knuckle and caused the same thing you are seeing with yours. Just some food for thought.

I run mine with only shims- no springs. My high mount tie rod arm isn't modified to accept all the original stuff. I use a assortment of rear end shims to get it just right.
Works great.:D

alright guys, it worked, tighten it right up... had to use 2 washers. I started out with 4 on the really loose side and that was way too tight...so i backed off to 2 and just right... i did make sure the kingpin and teflon bushing were good... so i am back in business at a total expense of $1.48
