Dana BOM# 603374

I couldn't match the # on patooyee's site or dana's expert site.

It's a 44 front, low pinion, passenger side drop ... don't remember what lug pattern ... think it was 8. ... 260's, lockouts, about 68" WMS.

... U shaped high steer arm on the drivers' side. Passenger side flar top knuckle (not drilled or tapped).

Is this a Ford, Waggy, other? The axle was already pulled and on a rack, so no one knows what it came out of. The dudes wanted $350, but that sounds steep considering that it's gonna' need a lot of TLC to get it ready.

I mainly want to know what it is so I have a starting point of reference for haggling.

Sounds like a Chevy D44. Are you sure it has x260 joints and 8 lug? They never came that way but that doesnt mean that someone didnt put x260 shafts into a later housing.

$350 is too much IMO.

1973 K5/K10 Chevy D-44. You didn't give the -# so you'll have to count teeth for the gear ratio.

I'm planning on photocopying my book for Patooyee's web site but haven't had time to go to a copier place yet.

A half ton 8 lug??????? Sounds like a 3/4 ton chevy axle from around the same time period alpo23 mentioned. People do pay $350 for them, but around here we get them complete for $250. If it is 8 lug, it should have the slow carrier, which is what you want 3.73+

Thanks guys! ... Alpo especially. I think this is the second time you've come through for me. Get that stuff to Patooyee and I won't have to keep bothering you. :D

I could be wrong about the 8 lug. I looked at a ton of 44's today. I didn't think it would look too good bringing a digi cam out to the boneyard.

BTW, it is a -8 on the BOM.

'71/ '72 chevy 1/2 and 3/4 ton axles use the small ujoint. And if the number is correct then someone may have switche the hubs- rottors etc to 8 lug. If that's the case the gear may be switched too. If you're going to go to warn axles the 260 joints in there don't matter as the larger shafts will fit.
