I own a '77 CJ5 with a D30 front, and AMC20 rear. Although I have 1pieced, disk braked, and trussed the 20, the 30 awaits new cromo shafts and ctm's. My question is this:

If upgrading to new diffs, should I go the EB 44/9" combo or dual D44's? I can see pros and cons to each, however I lean to the dual D44's due to parts interchanging. Thanks for the free info and advice. Much appreciated.

Put a ring gear from a 9" next to a 44 ring gear. I do believe you will see somewhat of a difference. No brainer.:D

i dont know about the nine inch, but the amc 20 ring gear is definately bigger than the 44

I might get flamed for this one but what the hell. I'd stay away from the 9" since you have a CJ5. The pinion is way low on those things and you'll probably end up with one hell of a driveshaft angle since its so short to begin with. It sounds like you have already adressed all the short comings of the 20, so leave it in there unless you want to go wider or swap to 1 ton parts.
