Since the Scout II I have acquired had a lil fire incident what are my options for Distributor? My distributor needs a new ignition module and im hearing that Prestolites are not very good. Any recommendations?

Nothing wrong wit Presolites, I prefer their HEI style plug wires on the dissy end.

Points Presolite with Pertronix is a nice combo, but a stock, late model (non "gold box") unit is a good choice as well.

The other options are a Stock "Holley" style, points or add a Pertronix. Or and aftermarket HEI or DUI HEI, or a Mallory (last three options are $$, but quality upgrades).

Easiest IMO to get an instant non-points dissy quickly it got to your local parts house and order up a 78-79 or so Prestolite, along with the proper wires, coil, etc and slap it in.

Could also use a Holley points style dist. and put the DuraSpark pick-up coil in it from a Ford Holley dist. (pretty much a bolt-in). Then use the DuraSpark pick-up to trigger a remote mounted GM 4 pin HEI module (also use the HEI coil). Then later on when your sick of your carb and want to go EFI, all you'll have to do is replace the 4 pin ignition module with a 7 or 8 pin module, lock out the mechanical and vacuum advaces and the dist. will be setup for the EFI.

Little fire that destoys the dizzy? I've had little fires that burned my wires and cables, but not the dizzy. The cap/coil/condenser/points should all be able to be replaced since the rest is metal.

What is a "little fire" to you?

All my distributor really needs is ignition module. cause the wires are burt so close and it would be real sketchy if i tried to run new wires from the module.. ill get some pics of the dizzy later when i get home.

its eletronic , you cant throw points into them and yo would't want to. even briggs and stratton gave up points in the 80s

You can put whatever in there, but then you might need the other items like a gold box. So just put a prestolite in there or put a Holley in there or upgrade a Holley with the Mopar conversion if you don't have a gold box.

Find a used Holley type distributor and use a pertronix or the duraspark conversion. Whatever you do, don't get a gold box type ignition system, no reason to start off backwards

That's a weird spot for a fire? I'm guessing a fan belt rubbed a hole in the fuel filter?
