I've been wheelin Jeeps since I was a little kid and I'm building one now that I have been working on for quite a while and I'm doin an axle swap. I have a set of D44's out of a Wide Track Cherokee and I was told a few days ago that they are weak. Is this just one nimrods opinion or does anyone else feel this way. Granted they are weaker than 60's, 70's, Mogs, or Rockwells but they are stronger than the 20 and 30 thats in this CJ now. Whats everyone elses opinion.
By the way I know I'll catch hell for being listed as a newbie so heres one for everybody :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Thanks for the help

Well, I'm in the process of putting waggy 44's under my CJ right now.
They were cheap to get, and easy for me to to get spare shafts for, and upgrade the rear to disks etc...
I am not a psycho on the go pedal, and know their limitations, so running big tires (38's) wont be too much of an issue for me.
There are guys out there breaking whatever you put under the rig, so its all up to what you plan on doing.
If you can get one ton running gear easily you are probably better off if you are a skinny pedal sicko, and into big meats.
If and when I start breaking stuff, or I can get one ton stuff for cheap, that will be my next step.

Like Maine said depends on how you beat on it. Put it this way, my 65 has 300+ HP, the worst I did was twist the splines on my rear D44. Also I have a few HP60 here and I'm installing a HP44 and 60-2 in it now. Why not use the D60 front, because the diff is on the wrong side (which I swaped on the 44) and I never had a problem with a D30 that I left open. I figure that with the HP44, power-lock and my 38s I may be breaking short side axles and u-joints. Do I care, no. I have lots of spares.

Thanks for the input, I too have never had any trouble with my D30 and its open however I locked my 20 and now I can't keep axle shafts in it. Thats my reason for the swap, otherwise I love being narrow enough to squeeze through things that the full-size guys can't when we are trail running.
Thanks Again
