What is a running chevy 400 motor worth... I was told not much, but I am thinking of buying a 80 chevy 1 ton and parting everything out but the axles...If the motor is not worth much, the truck couldn't be worth much????????

If the guy knows what he has the truck is worth more than you think.As far as the 400 goes depending on your area you should be able to get up to $500 for it.Also depends on shape of motor.

For just a stock engine as a core I wouldn't pay any more than $300 but then I'm a cheap bastard.

To be honest with you guys, $300 doesn't sound too bad to me...a couple of my friends say they are a piece of junk, and they are not worth anything...So, I guess I won't buy the chevy truck, and swipe the front 60 out from under it.

I agree with you rfrey, get it for the rest of the drivetrain ie: D60 and the 14bolt FF and..... Hmm?

i dont like em, they have thin cyl walls from being a over bored and stroked 350.. but alot of racers seem to really like them.. so a penny can be made from one

I know a couple guys who run high 9s and low 10s with a 400 and no sqeeze or nos. Not that much money in their cars so they cant be all that bad.

400 are really not a bad motor. They got a bad rap from being prone to overheating from the siamesed cylinders. But can be a solid motor overall.

The 400 is a really good motor look at the displacement more than a couple of the BBC.Yes you need to watch your heat.My wifes Sub has one and it is a strong puller.If the price is decent I would pic it up for the axles then sell what ever else you could.
