a buddy of mine just bought a 67 CJ-5 with a 134ci 4cyl motor. we have tried to start it but it is not getting spark to the plugs as far as i can tell. he replaced he coil today and both sides of the coil are getting power, when the ignition switch is on, according to thetest light. when he replaced the coil he removed the ballest(SP?) resistor because the new coil said that no external resistor is needed. should he have done this? secondly, one of the wires from the coil goes into the distributer. The other one goes up to a box mounted to the firewall. we can not figure out what this box is. O'rielly said that it was the Voltage redulator. do these motors not have an ICM?

any help would be greatly appreciated

Not sure what you are talking about with the box. However I would start with the points. 9 times out of 10 it will be teh points that will give you trouble. Inspect/replace the points, and make sure you set the proper gap and dwell.

Why don't you see if they may have some sort of repair manual for this ..(Probably NOT) , But it wouldn't hurt.. Also, you might wanna go back to Aggie school and slap them for not teaching you how to spell... I've never heard of a (redulator)... Could it be a regulator ?????:flipoff2: :flipoff2: Remember , One good smart re
mark deserves another.

No those engines do not have an ICM They have POINTS You should have a hot wire(from the ignition switch) to the (+) terminal on the coil.. Then you should have a Wire from the (-) terminal to the stud that sticks through the side of the distributor( make sure the stud Is not grounded to the distributor housing) inside the stud is attached to a tab that attaches to the points.. Use a volt/ohm meter to test the points to be sure you have voltage to them.. If you have voltage to the points you will need to verify that they are opening and closing all the way..

The voltage regulator should be a black box with 3 wires(some times there will only be 2 wires) Which will hook to the generator/alternator the other side will have 2 (some will only have 1)wires which go the ampmeter
