Soft 8

As of right now I am running a set of 265/70 R 16s Bridgestone Revos on my Soft 8's (16 x 8). They were great until they wore down around the 50% area and the center rib became solid. Now (not too much tread left on them at the moment) they seem as hard as mini van tires and will slip on wet pavement more than I would like. Since I have to drive about 45min one way to get to work and winter weather is coming, I want to ditch them before they ditch me. I dont want to run the next size larger tire because they will cause a lot of issues with rubbing that I cant address this winter. So, I priced a lot of tires the past couple of days and the slightly narrower 245/75 R16s have sparked my interest. Since I am running 8" wide wheels I was wondering if they would cause me a problem with the narrower 245/75 R16s.

Has anyone ran this particular set up before (245/75 R16s on 16x8s) or is there a reason why I shouldn't? I posted this on another forum which pointed out the Wrangler Rubicon used this setup, 16x8 Moabs with 245/75 R16s, But Looking through some of the specs of the tires for the maximum allowable wheel width for this size (245/75 R16s) they stop at 7.5" wide while 1 or 2 others (Wrangler MT/R being one of them) stops at 8" wide.

Thanks!

From what I have read a skinnier tire is better for winter driving. Higher psi on the contact patch helps. So the theory goes anyways. as far as mounting them you may need a strap or ether:D Skinny tires also don't protect the rims as well.

245s are a little narrow for 8" rims, you'll need to run more pressure to get a flat footprint, and the sidewall will be exposed to damage. better off with the larger tire. (you could try a 255/70r16 as a compromise )
