: $40 hunka junk
cjcustomx 11-07-2008, 09:00 PM Alright this is the deal... This little beauty cost me a whole $40 so already were starting off good. My plan is to gut the whole thing ( since it is 80% there anyway) engine, tranny, everything, and build the piss out of it.
I have a cj-7 with a 350 chevy, turbo 400, and danna 300 turning currie axles with 4:56 gears and I like the way it crawls but i know that its not the only set up in the world......
So if any one has any !!!!KIND!!!! suggestions as far as what kinda of engine, tranny, t-case, and axle set ups that you think would be good to run and easy on the check book let me know.
Also I want to put an x-o cage on it and any info in the right direction wouldnt hurt either.
Here is what i got ......

Okie Terry 11-07-2008, 09:15 PM You should run a 350 chevy, turbo 400, and dana 300, turning currie axles with 4:56 gears.
Piss on that CJ........ please.
cjcustomx 11-08-2008, 03:52 PM You should run a 350 chevy, turbo 400, and dana 300, turning currie axles with 4:56 gears.

Bronco 5.0, AOD, BW1345 or 54 or 56, whatever those things are called. Get the 44 and 9 from the guy above and go wheeling.

Ok its still at my friends house because we are building a shop and i only want to move it once. and he said that the brush guard is welded on and doesnt have much chance of coming off in a clean fashion.... still want it?
89_4x4_cherokee 11-11-2008, 08:51 PM If you take a grinder, you should be able to grind the welds off enough to take a chisel and break through the rest of the weld. And ya I wouldn't still mind having it. Get a rough weight, and measurements, so you can get a shipping quote, then I will let you know 100%.

XZettle 11-13-2008, 07:13 PM So if any one has any !!!!KIND!!!! suggestions...
There is nothing Kind about pirate :flipoff2:
What made you decide to go with an exo cage? Either way for 40 bucks its a win-win situation...you could proabably get that money back in scrap....

cjcustomx 11-15-2008, 06:36 PM hahaha no the 4 banger is gona find a home in the scrap yard.
and the project can sit for how ever long it needs too untill i get money for my 40's :flipoff2:
What else would you have in mind vs. an exocage?
I have good news for a motor... my uncle has a old truck that the tranny is out on and said i could have it for scrap and he says the motor is still good. But i hate to scrap the truck cause it just needs a little tlc. so when i pull the motor its up for grabs for any one that wants to come get it for free.

cjcustomx 11-15-2008, 06:43 PM I would pay you 40 bucks for the front brush guard. Make your money right back. :p

cjcustomx 11-20-2008, 02:12 PM The electrician has started the wiring in the shop so the build should start some time soon on this thing. Iam still trying to make it up to get the brush guard off.
onebadcherokee 11-20-2008, 02:28 PM Any chance you could snap a pic of the alternator mounting bracket? I want to replace my hack fabed one on my 6 cyl. Heard the 4 popper bracket works for moving the alt. up & out of harms way.
Congrats on the buy. Build it & WHEEL IT!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks
Mike

I ll check on it when i make it back up that way....since it gets dark and noon now its hard to do anything with it at night but ill check.
bigjeepman 11-21-2008, 09:03 AM If ou are wanting a motor from a truck then I would get one that both the motor and tranny and transfer case work. makes your life easier not trying to source a motor, then an adapter for the tranny, and then another adapter for the transfer case

True... but its hard to argue with free. The guy didnt know if it was a 305 or a 350 so if it is a 350 I can always keep it in a corner for a dust collector/spare parts source for my other 350.
I could go back there and look on the manifold but i would have to fight the 20 pound spiders from hell that are all over it... he said the truck has'nt moved in a long time.
Any body have any suggestions on tube bending software?

Yea its been a while. The past month has been crazy and neither me or millwood could set a time to pick it up..
The "shop" is done as far as building and electric but its been to muddy to move every thing in.
When you start back down here come by and see it some time... CJ is in there and starting to be rock worthy again :D
Get that camaro going and take it to centerville some night and ill take out the nova for old times...:shaking:
srsgsxr1000 01-08-2009, 01:16 PM Just drive an hour down to Hot Springs, bring a trailer, and for $300 we can load up a complete 2 door xj 4.0, auto, all the spare parts you could need, and a 2 door body if you would prefer, plus a drive trane that will bolt up. a rebuilt 4.0 with minor mods is great engine.
xjtony 01-08-2009, 06:37 PM That's a deal right there^ oh wait i thought the engine was rebuilt....

Nope engine not built, but is complete! I bought the jeep when i was building an xj, i paid 300 and it started and ran. I robbed a few parts but for the most part it is complete.
Oh, hows Hernando? I lived there for a while with my dad when i was a kid.

haha no i wish. I still have to pick it up from my friends house.
We pour cement tomorrow morning in front of the doors then i have to clean all the dirt that we tracked in the shop back out then move in...so all projects are on hold right now. :shaking:
Give me a call some time and we'll see what kinda crap we can come up with to work on.
you get any pictures of that car yet ?
make sure to do a build thread on this jeep, I'd def like to watch. Or just continue this one and update it!:D
Chevyman is that a 4th gen or just an LT1 swap? My buddy's got a 94 camaro LT1 383 stroker all balanced and blue printed, blown, heads, nasty cam, bad ass clutch, moser rear end. The car with all stock internals with just heads, cam, blower and a few other things put down a tad shy of 500hp at the rear wheels while starving for fuel. Now he's got the fuel system upgraded, the new motor, a rear end he can actually launch without destroying, and will be running more boost, I'm betting it'll be well over 600+ at the wheels. I believe its all forged internals as well. A VERY nasty car. You belong to any camaro forums? I wish I had a link to his build. The car is SICK. Have fun with that damn opti-spark and upgrade it if you can, or be sure to at least put a new one in there while the car's apart. He's has more problems with that then anything..I think he upgraded to a MSD setup now. Best thing is he has built the whole car himself minus the machine work obviously. You have a build thread on the car anywhere or anything I could look at? I'm a muscle car guy at heart. I've got a 68 Firebird begging to be restored, numbers matching all original but paint and rims, 63,000 original miles. My brothers got an 85 Z28 he's dumped loads of money into. Anyways, sorry for HIJACKING..you can reply to me in a PM if you want..to help keep from polluting his thread more. Sorry...back on topic now..
EDIT: the site he belongs to is projectcamaro.com but it doesnt seem to be working right now..

cjcustomx 01-21-2009, 11:49 AM I have been looking at alot of builds that are going with Rockwells recently.
Who wants to school me on pro's and cons, where to find them, and what is the best kind of set up to run with them?
Next i still need a motor. I am wanting something injected for obvious reasons. I have TBI on my cj and its pissing me off more than its working. Places to find motor or motor/tranny combo's would be a helpful.
