: 95 Disco LT230T Transfer Case

Had a LOT of questions that I did not find in a search.

I just picked up the T-case I bought from a friend in Denver. The part S/N is: 28D377231E. From the information I can find on the internet, I am *pretty* sure it is a "T" model and not the "Q" model. Can anyone verify for sure?

According to the owner of the case before me, he said that it came out of a 95 disco with a manual trans and 60K on the component. He said that the case was went through and it had the flange and oil updates. I understand the oil update, but what is the flange update? It has been sitting for over a year, and was wondering if there is anything I should pay close attention to other than tearing it apart and giving it a basic inspection?

Also the t-case doesn't have the flanges that the driveshafts connect to. It just has the 28 spline outputs with no hardware. By any chance can I rob the ones off of my Borg unit and put them on? If not, anyone have any extras laying around they would like to sell cheap?

The t-case is also missing the brake drum. I have heard that you can use the borg one also? Is this true? If not, any one have an extra laying around? I can take a digital picture to show exactly what is missing if that would help.

The main shaft imput has only ten slines. Seems kind of low. From the suffix, it appears to be a later model case, so I would assume it has the better stuff over the earlier ones (like deeper splines, etc.) do all have a main imput of only ten splines?

Another question is since it was originally mated to an LT77 (I assume, but don't know which manual tranny for sure) will it bolt on to the Autobox that I have?

I am going to need to source all of the necessary linkage to get the thing on. Anyone have a source for this? I will also need mounts as all of mine are very bent and from what I hear none will work anyways.

Thanks for your expertise in advance. Appreciate the help. Wanted to get all of my "ducks in a row" prior to ripping out the borg unit and then finding out I would have to put it back in due to a problem. I am in no hurry as I plan to make this a winter project.

I put a 230 in my 89. the LH chassis mount is the same, the RH chassis mount from the BW needed to be lifted about an inch, to do this I cut and shut the mount. The front drive shaft is shorter for the 230, I used a hilux DC shaft. All inputs are 10 spline and provided it has the oiling holes and the splines are good all is well. I had a lt77 and now is ZF, mounting is the same. Park drum is the same, not sure on the flanges though. Some people reckon they have troble with the driveshaft not clearing the crossmember when they switch to a 230, with stock suspension travel there usually isnt a drama.
Ive got a spare tcase shifter setup but I doubt its going to do you any good due to location.
As an aside, my case came from a wreck and had a bent front output flange, have a good look at your case for cracks or similar if it came from a wreck, also make sure you adjust the centre difflock actuation correctly and install a light to show when its locked, ex BW drivers tend to forget about the diff lock initially and either forget to lock it and cant understand why forward progress ceases off road or leave it locked and wonder why the rig now runs wide in turns on the road...
Sorry for the ramble..
Cheers

Adam,
I believe I have a set of mounts for the t-case to frame.
let me know if you want them.

Roverhybrids, I'll take them. PM me a price and I will send you a check.

Daryl, Wow thanks, you answered all of my questions. Glad to see that this one will work for me when I get everything going. I will look into installing a light. Maybe if I can find a wrecked disco, I can steal the lighting wiring from that. I am going to hold off on the t-case linkage from you for a bit, but if I can't find any, I will let you know.

Any good books out there that walk you through the rebuild? I have a LT230T overhaul manual off of the internet, and it is the typical Land Rover manual that is a good reference for some things, but not so good if you have never done the job before.

Adam-
It was behind an R380 manual fwiw-
Don't think that should make a difference in your install..
