: putting a miller in my 60...bad juju?
pennsylvaniaboy 11-08-2008, 12:06 PM Ok guys i know that this has been covered prolyl a 100 times. but i cant seem to get a straight answer.
my truck has recently become trail only never to return to the street. its a '79 k30 with 4.10's, 38's, welded 14bt, and soon to be a doubler. do i weld the 60 for more traction or look for a lockright.
i by no means will spend the money for a detroit. someone give my the good, bad and the ugly of doing this. and personal expereince is great.

it's not a miller, it's a lincoln...
cj8scrambld 11-08-2008, 01:45 PM It tends to make steering difficult....Hydro assist/hydro helps...but it can still tend to want to push str8 when welded/spooled...sometimes it seems in the really slick stuff my Detroit doesn't even want to let go...stubborn biatch....LOL

Well it would be a miller if that what kind of welder he has.:D
I guess that what kind of locker my eaton has.
cj8scrambld 11-08-2008, 05:14 PM It was probably a Lincoln born locker....then it could be a Miller....a Hobart.....?
tacoma73 11-08-2008, 05:18 PM It'll push like crazy, but they work.
philadelphia 11-09-2008, 05:09 AM How well in general do the stock u joints hold up.well if i got some spicers?
I did this in my old 44 and broke 6 shafts in a month of weekend trips..I know the 60 is bigger but i dont want to ruin a carrier nor do i want to try to find stock shafts..This may be the way to go for me until i can get time to save up for some longs.

I had a hard enough time getting a carrier with a ring gear attached back inside.
Maybe if you smashed it up into a small enough ball (think trash compactor) you could fit your miller in there.:lmao:
Detroit. You get what you pay for.
Spent the money and never looked back.

Until you break a stub and wipe out your detroit with it. Thats the only reason I just welded mine. Full hydro, twin sticked w/ line locks, 35 outers with drive flanges.
srjones78 11-19-2008, 06:29 PM not to hijack or anything...but instead of starting a new thread--- if you put a loc-right/detroit in a d44 front on a full time 4wd axle would it ever actually unlock? or would it just be better off to weld it.

d44's are no comparison to a d60.
weld it up. do you have lock out hubs? you could just run one hub unlocked till you really need it. you will love the traction either way, i think it makes it all worth it. i have a lockright and when your in the power, it's like it's welded anyway.
