: What axle ratio with V6/V8 and auto tranny?
For those of you running a V6 or V8 and auto tranny, what size tire are you running and what axle gear ratio do you have also?
Found out my new trail truck has 5.29's with a single case, TH350 and 350 small block turning 35" BFG muds... Seems not low enough putting around the yard in low (haven;t taken it wheeling yet) but too low on the street...
Brutpwr 08-11-2002, 01:25 AM I like 4.10's with the 350/350 combo with 35's. With the torque you have even 3.55's would work ok. I'd be hesitant to use any gear steeper than 4.56 w/o an overdrive of some sort.

This truck won't see anything but intermittent road use (read: gettting from trailer to trail head) so I am not too worried about road performance. Besides - bigger tires may come soon ;)
What happened to 4.88s and 42s?
Toy4x 08-11-2002, 10:04 AM highly depends on the v6 you speak of.
I'm runnin 4.88s & 33 muds, with the 3.0zve auto in mostly mud.
Hwy is great (which you don't care about), and no complaints in the goo usually, when it gets real serious, lowrange bails me out every time, powerwise.
BUT i think my 3.0 is better than average
toy283 08-11-2002, 10:22 AM Stock 4.10 with 38.5" tires. For the street I considered it too low, too high for the trail.
I am running the 4.10's with 37's..I also have marlin crawler in the transfer case. this is with a 350/turbo350. Seems to be the best of both worlds for what I want to do. I can cruise down the highway at 65, and crawl with the best of them in 4-lo
flimmy 08-11-2002, 11:29 AM Sell the 5.29's, put 4.10's in for the strenght and go with dual cases. Witht the single stock case and 5.29's the ratio is 47:1. With dual stock cases and 4.10's it's 84:1 , thats the same as running a single case w/ a 4.1 gears set and 5.29's (83:1). So I'd go with the duals and stock 4.10. btw All ratios are based on a 3.93 first gear ratio, the most common Toyota 4WD first gear transmission ratio. I'm not sure what the 1st gear for a th350 is.
Benny 08-11-2002, 01:11 PM I have a chevy 350, TH350, Stock Toy T-Case, 4.10s and 36" tires.
On the street, it will do 120+. Way to fast. On the trail, It is too fast and hard to go slow, I wish I had 5.29s, but would probably stop at 4.88s for strength. (Toyota Axles)
The truck has enough power, but would be even better with lower gears.
I still need to get you those pics you wanted....

2.52:1. But that's after the torque converter & low/reverse clutch pack lock up. Before that the ratio is considerably lower due to slippage.
Could always swap in a TH700R4. They can be built to handle anything a TH350 handles. Local shop built one for a friend of mine that has a 750hp twin turbo '69 Camaro. Works great!!
Anyway, I'm gonna be running the 700r behind my '98 Vortec 4.3, 5.29's and 35's. Nice combo. 3.06 1st and a .70 4th. Lower first gear then the 350 unless you are running the 700R gearset. Plus overdrive is nice if you run it on the road.
Garza 08-12-2002, 07:49 AM I got 350 V8, TH400 203/205 doubler, 5.13's and 42"TSLs'. I was made a hell of a deal on a fresh TH400/doubler already set up, so I parked the TH350. So what, that makes me 50:1 before torque converter, about 100:1 after? If this is not enough, I have plenty of options opening up with a gear set for the 203, one coming out for the 205, and lower first fir the TH400 in neccessary. I should be fine with my set up, we'll see. Not worried about R&P strength, got a D60 & 14 bolt:D . Damn I need to get this freaking thing rolling..
