so, I've got an EEK on the way.

I'm looking for a reliable and inexpensive sight.

do the carry handles have a built in sight? or am I looking at one of those $30 5MOA red dots from your sporting goods store of choice?

Carry handles have a built in sight, if you eventually wan to run a optic, I would get a BUIS (Back Up Iron Sight), that folds down when not in use. You should be able to find YHM one for =/- $70 brand new, and around $50 used.

If the carry handle is removable, a backup sight is an option to consider, but if it is not removable, a backup sight won't be an option.

I've been looking at some of those ~50 buck red dot sights for mine.

it's for the DS carbine, which according to the pic at evil-black-rifles.com is a flattop

Call Pete back and have him throw in a cheapo carry handle sight. They aint the best in the world, but I didn't have any problem with mine. When you decide to throw a red dot on it, you can take a hacksaw to the carry handle so it is only the rear sight part. It'll still work just fine, and you'll have room for an optic.

It may not be sexy, but it'll get the job done for cheap.

pm inbound.

I'm using a cheap Red Head red dot on my AK. I'll review it once I get to sight it in. I know it's not a BUISCORICOEDA, but so far it looks well built for 40.00.

That Tasco pro-point plus that's been posted here is a suprisingly well built little sight for $50. I am very impressed with it so far.

Yes, those have to be the fuzziest pictures on the internet. Learn the flower (macro) setting on your camera or GTFO. :p

Since my EEK's are here... any updates to this?

I wasn't paying attention, but I assume if I go with a red dot, it needs to mount high enough to clear the front sight that's already on there?

or remove the front fixed sight and gas block, replace with a railed gas block and put in a front folding sight. or one of those combo folding sight, gas blocks from YHM.

or do like i have done with my Millet DMS and leave the front sight there and ignore the *small* blur when its on the 1x setting....

Depends what optic you're going to be running. The co-witnessed front post in an EOTech or Aimpoint actually works very well, and even though it sticks up 1/3-1/2 way into the lens, it's not annoying.

However, given the (lack of) budget you always have attached to your OSR inquiries, I doubt you're going to be spending that much on an optic, and I haven't shot a co-witnessed cheapo sight.

Like I said back in November the Tasco Pro-Point plus is suprisingly not a bad deal. You would have to use a riser with it on a flattop though, its prety compact. I have an EoTec and the dot floats directly above the front post with the BUIS flipped up. Thats actually how I "bore" sigted it and it turned out to be spot on accurate. I would not recomend the YHM rear BUIS though, mine wobbles and will be replaced with a GG&G when I get around to it. The YHM front is GTG though. Personally, I would get a BUIS first and then get a red dot (if you want it later). Thats what I did.

I went with a Bushnell Trophy MP and like it. It cowitnesses with the front sight, but is a bit lower than I'd like, so I'm considering a riser for the mount for it.

Not dirt cheap, but I feel it's worth it.

Hey now :p

I figure I'll start by pricing out the cheap, and decide if I want to buy UP as my needs dictate.

Right now, I just need *some* kind of way to aim the thing ;p

Since I just saw this - whatever carry handle I had was not the correct one for the front sight that came on the upper - Then gun shot about 12" low repeatedly.

I need to find something a little better than that, and my free optic appears to be garbage. Actually, I think it's the mount, because I couldn't get ANY repeatability out of it. Any suggestions besides the YHM?

I was shooting at an outdoor range over the 4th of july weekend and there was this group of guys there shooting what looked like an optics ready bushmaster. They must have a couple of hundred rounds through it. I took a closer look at it and realized that it had no sights what so ever. They must have been using the force to aim it?

Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.

It was what Pete called the AR kits he had for sale at the end of last year. It was originally EEEK and stood for "Election, Economy and Emergency Kit" (or some variation thereof). After the election, he dropped that "E" from the name.

other then the manufacturer that some may not agree with I can fully reccomend the Magpul Back Up Sight (MBUS)
Thing realy is awesome.
I love the ambi lever. Its spring loaded, so hit the lever and the sight pops up.
I am able to hit it with my trigger finger with out taking the weapon from my shoulder or moving my firing thumb from the grip. Really pretty cool.
And its hard to beat $45
