If I can get my parts collection together before then, I would love to come. I hear it sucks to actually stay with the trail rides, though. I may just happent o be at Tellico that weekend. :)

It's amazing that I just "happen" to be in Tellico every year for the Dixie Run. It's too much trouble to go all the way to Hanging Dog every day after riding. I did that one year.

I find it amazing the number of people who are members of SFWDA that choose to just show up at Tellico the same weekend as the Dixie Run and stay at stateline. IMHO, if you plan on going to Tellico during the Dixie Run you might as well go ahead and suck it up and pay the entry fee and drive over to the headquarters. The Dixie Run is Southern's main fund raiser of the year. A lot of those funds go straight back to Tellico and the care of the area. If you go to the Dixie Run to ride every trail there you are going for the wrong reasons. That's not the main objective of the event. Yeah, the traffic jams are inevitable, but the ones who just show up and ride along make those jams that much worse. Southern members who don't pay for the DR and just show up to ride, how about going down the weekend before or after. Hell, $70 bucks and a drive over to Murphy once a year is not that big of a deal, and the money only benefits the area and the association.

Damn, you sure know how to make a guy feel guilty. I hate it when I'm wrong.:emb2:

Not to add to yer feeling bad, I did the same thing the first year I went (just showed up and camped on the trails). After that (last 4 years) I have paid and camped in camp and gotten the excellent BBQ Sat. Night, not to metion all the great rigs you can check out. Venders alley is not so hot, but there are a ton of great people to talk with.

The organized rides actually work out great, its the other people on the trails that end up making a mess of things as the organized rides have to slow and jostle around to make room for passing the non organized. Belive it or not, they actually time most of the runs to try and keep them from crossing paths to many times and slowing everything up. There are always rolls and rig breakage to slow it down as well.

I am not sure when the new rules will go into effect, but the main place where most people camp (at the intersection of trails 1 and 5) is usually where the rangers hang and most of that is going to be off limits and ticket time for campers.

The money goes towards Tellico Maintence and the new camp is very large and the Crawford Camp is just up the road from the Dixie Run camp. Its fun to go over there and watch folks in the mud pit and on the rocks.

Yea, I went (and paid) for 5 years. The last year I went and paid was the first year they had it in Murphy. I tried to stay on the TN side and just join up with the ride at the trailhead. That was a no go.
I have a friend that has a cabin in Tellico, so that is the reason we stay there and not in Murphy. It was too much trouble to get up early, drive down the gravel road for an hour to meet the group for the ride, and then turn around and drive right back.
I understand this is their big fund raiser for the year. It seems to me they would do better if they brought it back to where the trails are.
Does anyone know the reason they moved to Murphy? The rumor I heard was, they had too much trouble out of TWRA.

I'll be there working registration.

As to why it was moved, well lots of reasons. First the old campground was too small and lots of folks were illegally parking to get in for the dinner and raffle and getting ticketed. The FS wasn't willing to expand the campground either like had been planned. With the move, there is more than enough room. Distance wise it isn't any worse for me driving up from AL. Personally I don't go to Dixie for the rides -- too crowded. I go to support Southern and interact with everyone. Last year we only left camp to head into Murphy to pick up some stuff we forgot. Had a blast even so. Will probably be repeating that this year. Two years ago I wasn't planning to ride, but ended up tailgunning a ride and spent about 1 hour directing traffic on trail 4 between Fain's ford and trail 5.

Aren't they expanding the camping areas as we speak. I can't remember where I saw it, but they were sure moving a lot of dirt.
It was on the NC side.
