My bronco recently started clunking and rattling as soon as i start to drive. it sounds like something is hitting. The stick shifter rattles and grinds louder and louder the faster you go. I took the rear driveshaft of and drove it in 4 wheel drive and the sound stopped. I then looked at the rear u joint that connects to the diff and the cups where blown with no bearings. So i put a new one in and i was positve that was the problem. It still did the same thing. I pulled the third member out and inspected it thinkin that maybe i snapped a spider gear tooth but it all had been redone and was extremly clean. Im stumped i really wanna get it fixed. If you know anything that wood help that i could try i would really apreciate it. THanks

did you replace only one ujoint? if you replace one you might as well replace them all. depending on the year of your bronco your cv might need a rebuild. There is a an inner bearing on it that might be going bad

Roll it through its range of motion in your hands. If it binds or sticks at any point, thats usually a good indicator.

when u took out the rear shaft did u put in 4 wheel drive and drive w/ your front moving only???? sounds like the problem i had when the forks in the tcase were worn out and rubbing, went away w/ 4 wheel drive engaged. hook it all up and pu in 4 wheel see if it goes away, if so u lost a tcase...
