I have always had an idea of putting a GPS or lojack type device inside a gun safe or cabinet, in the event that the entire safe gets stolen. This way you'd know exactly where it was taken, and could hopefully get a full recovery.
So I stumbled across this:

They also look small enough to actually fit inside a buttstock of a rifle, depending on the type of stock you have.
It's a bit pricey to consider putting on each rifle, but it could definitely be something to throw in the safe, cabinet, vehicle, etc.
Of course you have to pay a monthly fee, which sucks, but it's not too expensive.
Just something to consider.

I would put it inside the buttstock of a random AR. You can pretty much bet that where it goes is where the rest did as well  Set the "zones" to your yard and just remember to place it in a diffrent gun when you leave for the range.

are you really going to take it out and recharge it every 5 days?? a dead locator won't do much good.. and will it work through a thick ass safe??

Probably a lot cheaper than a P.I.
need to do a bit more reading, but that look exactly like what I want for Tate. He's 3, has down syndrome, and tries escapes from the house. I have to keep all doors locked to keep him in.
Just thinking out loud here, but if the intent is to notify you in the event of a theft of your entire safe, I'd think setting up something that as soon as the safe is moved - it trips 2 things:
1. notifies you by thr web, email, cell phone, etc.
2. activates a GPS tracking device of some kind inside the safe.
How about hacking into a cheap cell phone with GPS tracking on the service? Might be as cheap as $5 or $10 a month on your current cell bill, and you set it to trigger teh tracking feature with a trip wire from the safe being moved.
what's the difference between the dog tracker and the normal tracker? packaging? a collar?

Hey Mo, they make a nice one your kid wears like a watch. Web tracking and all that jazz. My oldest is 12 and Autistic, for a time was considering one.
I don't have the info now but I'm sure the wife remembers it. If you would like me to try and find let me know. :)
