does anyone know if this is possible. Yes I know the g360 can be a pain, but behind a 6.2l it should be fine. I just cant seem to find a bell housing that will work. I have looked at universals for the GM bolt pattern but it doesn't seem like it will fit.

thanks

i would assume cheap 5 spd OD tranny that is works fairly well in 3/4 ton applications. it just was not a good match for diesels but shoot a 6.2 or even a mild 440 they seem to last just fine

seen a couple g360's tied to mopar big blocks. imagine that adapter plate might be able to be used on a gm bellhousing that used the np435 since the mopar BB's are using the stock mopus bellhousing with np435 pattern. measurements etc would be required to set the clutch fork and all but its possible or you could call lakewood

I think the problem you will find is that all manuals in mopars have a really long input shaft. I guess if you made a thick adapter to go between the trans and bell it'd be do-able. I don't imagine anyone makes one since there 9is no real reason since all of the big 3 have OD transmissions that will bolt directly to their own shit.

crashnzuk hit the nail on the head. if the getrag g360 is anything like my dodge 435 it will be more of a pain than its worth. as mentioned the input shaft is suuuuuper long, and the bearing retainer is fairly short. i.e.,its not quite as simple as making a thick adapter plate,as there may not be enuff bearing retainer for the t/o bearing to slide on,without maching a sleeve to fit over it,and find a t/o bearing, fork, etc. that will work.

keep your eyeballs peeled for a nv 4500 or 3500 from a gm truck if you want a 5 speed for your 6.2.

i personally am going to use a ranger OD with my sm465 behind the 6.2 in py project truck. thats another good option if you can luck into one cheap.

another option might be to simply use a good sm465 and gear your axle(s) down to 2.72 or 3.08. the granny gear will help you get loads moving, and higher axle gears will keep the rpms down

my 2 cents,for what theyre worth :)

I can buy a g360 real cheap, and since its a 5spd with OD, i hoped it would be easy as putting a 4500 behind the engine but for a couple hundred bucks instead of 2k bucks. Since the 6.2 isn't even remotly in the relm of a cummins I figured the trans would last forever also, plus its got a good granny gear. Anyway it doesnt seem like its worth the headache to do.

I don't know if this is worth anything, but a getrag bolt pattern is the same as a ford np 435. The bearing retainer is slightly smaller on a getrag.

we are talking belhousing to tranny bolt pattern, correct??

not saying youre wrong, but if thats the case its wierd, since the ford 435 is absolutely nothing like the dodge 435.

do you have both these trannys in your posession now? if so take a couple pics of the fronts, and of the input sahfts.

how do the input shaft lengths compare?

You are correct. The Dodge 435 pattern is way off. Ford pattern is dead on,
I installed a ford NP435 trans on a 89-93 Dodge Getrag bell. I used a 1 3/8" 10 spline input from an NP435 in a old F-500 Ford. I used a custom pilot bearing that I had to machine myself.(got the oil impregnated bronze from http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRHM ) The Ford bearing retainer had to be turned down to fit in the bell. Dodge 435's use a 9/16 bolt to hold them to the bell. Ford 435's use 1/2". Dodge used a 7/16" for the Getrag bell. I drilled out the 7/16 holes in the bell and tapped them for a 9/16 thread. I then drilled out the mounting holes in the Ford 435 to 9/16". I did this because I didn't feel that the step up to 1/2" would give me clean threads. I then had 'AZ Brake and Clutch' build a 13" disc with a 1 3/8-10 spline hub. The stock Dodge 13" pressure plate is installed. All the stock clutch hydraulics can then be install from a 89-93 Dodge. I installed this in a 91 Ramcharger

If you could find a GM to Ford NP435 adapter bell might help. You're still going to have to figure out pilot bearing engagement and have a clutch disc built to fit the getrag input(1 1/4"-10spline).
