I was doing the R380 to ZF conversion on my 90 this past weekend and this is what I found when I pulled the tranny. Only 70K on the truck. The gear in the transfer case was gone too, and it didn't have any cross drilled holes?!! I can't post em here, so follow this link.

Second pic. Sorry to see that Tisdale. Hope you can find a cheap source for parts. Any pics of the internal splines of the LT230?

JT, be careful when you buy a new gear for your tcase. I bought a non-genuine part sold by BMI (British Motor Imports) and it was NOISEY.
Pulled the case three times setting up/checking the preload and couldn shut it up, then had a guy tell me most aftermarket input gears arent 'hobbed' correctly and hence are noisey.
Since a new genuine part was considered too pricey I found a good condition 'non-drilled' part from a wrecker and used a masonary bit, tungsten tip, in a drill press going really slow to drill the oil holes, dress the inside and called it good. It did 30,000ks behind an LT77 and hasnt had any dramas, just swapping to ZF now too.
Cheers
Daryl.

Thanks Adam for posting the pics, I'll take some of the LT230 gear today...you may want to check yours if it was mated to an LT77(pull the PTO cover and the ring plate behind it and the gear falls out in your hand).
Daryl-
Thanks for the heads up, I'm waiting on pricing today.

Too bad man...But, as you know, w/o the cross drilled gear thats what happens.
LT77 or not w/o the x-drilled gear you'll loose your splines (ie. if you changed out your LT77 for an R380/ZF you'll still have the problem if you have a early 230).

Look on the bright side, you could have ended up like a friend of mine and tried to launch out into traffic when BANG there went the splines alltogether. He was very lucky he wasn't hit broadside after loosing all drive capability.
Did you have to tow him also? LOL....:flipoff2:

Fortunately not LOL. Also there weren't any speed bumps called Golden Crack, and Golden Stairs on that tow job.:flipoff2:
