Anyone taken a V8 conversion through Maryland inspection and emissions testing??
The '80 conversion (350 out of an '80 Malibu) I have is minus a catalytic converter. None of the smog sh*t it hooked up either. I noticed that the fuel recirc. is not used. Only thing this thing has that will currently pass emissions is a fuel filter and a PCV valve! How difficult and expensive is it going to be to get this pig ready for that part of the inspection?
I figure I can get a high flow cat and have a muffler shop install it (custom exhaust currently is 2.5" pipe welded through out). It is the other smog requirements I am worried about.
Thanks for any info.

Not sure what part of Maryland you live in but go find the gas station / inspection station with the ford or chevy on 44s parked out front. If you head out into the country you should not have to drive too far. Then invite the guys to come and check out your chevy swap cruiser and explain to them your need of an inspection...
The beauty of Maryland is you only need to get it through once. Then just pass your emissions every two years, which can be done fully desmogged.

i have an 84 fj-60 and the emmision station never even opened the hood. they saw the 33 TSL's and wouldn't put it on the dyno either, just did a exhaust and gas cap test. this is in northeast up by delaware. i have a guy up here who will inspect just about anything also for 50 bucks.

Thanks for the ideas. I live in Montgomery County, so perhpas I will head on up to Frederick Co. and look for some large trucks sitting out front of an inspection station.
If all else fails, I have the express use of an address in West Virginia. Apparently if all of the lights work and there are no breaks in the glass, it is good to go. I noticed that when the cruiser was registered there, they classified it as a "station wagon." LOL

Inspection, depending on where you live, can be handled as John described - Look for the big as rotten ford on 44's. If you live near Bowie, I got mine done at Bowie Citgo on Race Track Road. He's not the friendliest dude, but he'll give it to you stright.
As for emissions, well, they didn't even open my hood. I failed, but that's another story.
Good Luck
