Driving the FJ-40 home today I noticed the smell of anti-freeze popped the hood and was sprayed by a nice little squirt from the fan got out a flashlight (of course it was at night in my unlit apt parking lot) and found a hole corroded through the bottom driver's side of the radiator. So my question is can I JB weld or sodder it and expect it to hold for a decent amount of time or am I just kidding myself. It's a 2F with a few engine mods but don't think they are relevant to the discussion. Any help would be much appreciated.

you can jb weld the aluminum race ones so i dont see why you couldnt do it to a stock crusier one(depending on how big a hole). i have a stock rad in fine shape for sale. jiMMy

You can solder the stock radiator. Just clean the spot very well, apply some flux paste and use some solder..... "silver solder" or whatever it is called. I have done this to my radiator a few times and I have yet to have a problem from the solder.

whoa!! not silver solder, that needs no flux and requires mucho heat, you would melt the rad before you melted the silver solder, just reg.old solder. you can get flux core solder at home depot just for things like this, but i have always had better luck with paste.

i have been soldering my radiator in few spots for a half a year (every time a new whole)
then i just got a new one for $190 from a local radiator place and completly forgot about that problem
when i opened my old one to see whats going on inside, i just congradulated myself with the right chooce of solution

the problem is that cooper radiators rot from inside out
and when u get a first leak, alot more r comming

so save urself sometime and get a new one

just my $0.005
