hey everybody

been thinking about building a doubler for the cherokee for a while now. SO..i want to be able to build it on a relatively decent budget. i dont really know how much the average set up costs though. 6-7 hundred??...more less? dont really know.

but...i would like to keep driveside drop since i just finished my dana 44, and also keep the NP231.

so ive seen a few write ups, but what is the most common set up with a 231. 205, 207, 300.

also some people cut the first t-case in half, and others dont it seems like? what is the reason for this?

thanks

search for d&d machine or mad rooster doubler kit. both are here as vendors on pirate i think. one may have left, not sure.

you can do it with your 231, and another 231 if you want, but i suggest (i plan on doing this) a dana 300 and 231. dana 300's are stronger and gear driven so no chain stretch worry.

that said, a used 300 will cost maybe 150, flip kit for driver side drop maybe another 100-200 - depending on the quality kit you get. and the big expense is the doubler adapter, both d&d and mad rooster are around 500-600 i believe.

You can also mate up a 79 Dodge Np203 to a 23 spline trans then do a 203-d300 doubler.

Im not sure about the specifics of you build but a long tail shaft d300 also used the same speedo housing as the 231 so you get to keep your spedometer if that matters at all. Short tail shaft version will not.

thanks for all the help. originally i thought id go with a d300 because theyre pretty easy to find and cheap, and it looks like ill still stick to that.

time to start researching doubler adapters i guess
