Pretty hardcore question here, but I need to replace the tie rod ends on the 1980 scout but no parts stores have a listing for them.

Any idea what the moog-like part number is for the left and right ones?

already posted at the bb, no response.

I think it's something like ES150R & ES150L, but I'm really not sure. I never bought any of the puny ones... I've only dealt with the 1-ton TRE's.

The above mentioned ES150 Rand L are what I used , But I don't think they will thread into a stock tie rod. The threads are 3/4 16

I used those and made my own bar. Used it for 3 months before I swapped in the D60 :shaking:

there's an old post,

Well, on further inspection, everything in the front end was tight. The only play was the loose steering box (yes, should have been the first place I looked). I cranked the bolts down and it's much better, but from my experience with the other scout, it's only a matter of time till it gets loose again so hopefully I can get a strate steer, or at least a plate, fabbed up before the 1000 mile trip home towing this thursday.

Still suprised that I couldn't find a single bit of play in the front end. The tires that were on it when I got it were worn down on the inside bit of tread, so I may see if I can bust some stuff loose and check/adjust the toe in, busy doing wheel joints and re-greasing everything right now.

a side note, I called a nearby autovalue and they said that they needed to know what chassis model it was, he rattled off 5 or so differn't letter combos of 3 or less. None of them were kgd like i expected, so who knows. I couldn't find anything else on the linset either. weird stuff. should have just gone to my local international harvester light line dealer i guess. :D

They just want the chassis code to determine what year the truck is to determine what axle it is. It's just the way their database is coded. They are trying to determine what axle you have... drum or disc, Beam axle, D30 or D44. Your '80 would be a KGD, so looking in the pic I posted above, KGD would fall into the "EGD-10001 & up" category. So, you would want 2052 & 2053 TRE's. That is assuming that it still has the original front axle in it.

Oh yeah... don't forget to take a couple pics for the dumb load thread. :flipoff2:

he had already asked if it was a fa-44 axle though, and KGD wasn't an option. W/E, doesn't matter, you betcha i'll get a pic though. I'll get one at the exit 14 cheapest-gas-on-i35 stop too there in KC.

You're forgetting who you're talking to.... a counter monkey that doesn't even know what the fuck all those numbers and letters mean. He's just trying to match info with what's on his screen. That's why I always look up the parts I need and determine what part number I need. When I go to the parts store I just ask for a part number. If they ask me "what are you working on", I just tell them "it doesn't matter, I want that part number".
