Hello everyone. I've got a new motor coming up on my own after being severly reamed by the dealership and the extended warranty company. The dealership has offered me a "deal" to install the motor since I have to pay a whole bunch of expenses now including rental car (while they 25 days diagnosing, inspecting and leaving it sit making up their mind) but I will still have to cough up over $4500 CDN at the end of the day.

I have another shop who will do the labor for roughly half, saving me about $1200. The dealer is telling me that if I do that, the truck will have to come back there anyway to have all the setup done and the codes cleared. Is this true or BS? I thought any code reader would woork on the truck provided we had a list of the codes to diagnose.

Thanks in advance.

I dunno, but what does a new 4.6 short cost these days?

With install kit which is required to get warranty, it's $5,000 USD plus shipping, etc. They recommend using a new front cover assembly with new oil pump, claiming the discos have problems with low oil pressure causing premature wear. That was another $500.

I did not stay at a Holiday Inn express last night.
