and no, not airsoft. I just don't think cheap chinese airsoft parts can hold up to the .308.
I need something high enough to allow for a 4x32 optic, mounted on my HK-91/CETME clone, and still clear the rear sight drum.
I want to co-witness irons and optic, so I need a riser to put the optic just above the rear sight drum. As it sits now, I'd have to remove the drum sight in order to mount an optic. So I need something to situate the optic maybe .5-1" higher.
For reference here's a 3x9x40 optic mounted. It contacts the drum, and completely blocks it.

I'll probably end up with a shorter 4x32 optic, as I feel it should be mounted a bit further forward for comfort, and the longer 3x9x40 will interfere with the charging handle.
So far, I've found this over on arfcom. Are there any other options?

Did you look at Burris High mount rings? They should allow you to clear the drum sight.

as it sits now, can you even get a good sight picture through the scope with a decent cheek weld? i highly doubt it and think it is going to be about useless if it is 1/2" - 1" higher. just my opinion.
are you planning on a psg-1 stock?

Putting it higher would put it maybe only slightly higher than the original HK claw mounts put it, so I do not think it'll be up too high. Putting it up another half to one inch wouldn't be uncomfortable at all for me, at least.
Not planning on a PSG-1 stock. The PTR-91 stock that's on it right now will be just fine for this rifle.

- The original mount doesn't necessarily allow for a good cheek weld.
- 1" is a pretty big difference.
- Taller rings will raise the scope. They may or may not have a hole in them to see through.
- What's so hard about picking between having a scope or having iron sights?
ETA That riser you posted a pic of won't let you use your iron sights.

Maybe this is for Jay Leno?

I mounted my scope so that the ocular bell is slightly behind the rear sight. To move it any farther forward, I would have to use at least a 0.5" riser (YHM makes a nice one for not too much cash link (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=529396&t=11082005))
The cheek rest is from these guys: http://www.cheekpieces.com/
The cheek rest is removable, and after I take it off, I can use the iron's underneath the scope.

BTW: the going rate for a PSG-1 stock is not worth it IMO. Magpul makes a PRS for G3's, thats the way to go.

I had the same problem on a Sig 556 with factory picatinny rail mounting a Bushnell with a large optical bell. I did not want to hang the bell off the back and tried the extra tall Weaver mounts with no luck.
These ended up working well, quick detach and gave me the rise that was needed.

I had a B-square HK91 mount that raised the height, but it will not work with your welded on rail. I would go with taller rings.

I used a set of ultra high Warne rings to mount an Aimpoint on an AR. I wanted to co witness the Aimpoint with the iron sights, fixed front A2 style sight, flip up YH rear. It works perfect for that and Warne is a great company with outstanding customer service. Those rings are beefy and rock solid. I would recommend them.
