The official quote is $4000 so it is a fair amount of dammage. I think they only started on it today  . And when i called on sat. they said it wouldn't be done till the 23rd. I called them today and told them I have plans and need to have the truck by the 16th. If not I will kill them.

Would anyone be up for desoto mine afterwards? I'll need to talk to a co-worker but i think he would come if we ran desoto afterwards

man i hope thats sarcasm, cuz we just talked about this last week.

TRD i dont think desoto will be in the plans AFTER telegraph, its a far stretch away from each other and although telegraph CAN be run quickly desoto is a much longer trail. though i am definitly up for a desoto run too in the future!!

i usually delete my threads if theres no good tech stuff in them once they are spent.
well you dont have to take the hwy at all, you can come up hayden to frank lloyd wright (bell), then over to pima and all the way up. hayden is 40mph mostly and pima is 50mph, length wise for you its about 25 miles? to cave creek, the trail is another 20 miles. i dont know where everyone wants to meet, but i can meet you anywhere n. of frank lloyd wright. in the evening this route is great. if you have a map look at bartlett lake. your cruiser will drive just fine on this route.

OK, so I have conflicting stories on how hard this trail is. I have a locker and a lift (still IFS though) so I lift a tire driving over speed bumps. Not concerned bout me, but some of the other people that wish to go do not have a locker or lift. I am trying to guage if this would be okay for them, or a nightmare. Any more opinions from those who have done it? I have been told that its not a real big problem, but then I have been told that it will be near impossible w/o a locker for IFS rigs.

yeah, i', talkin to you, whatch gunna do about it:D

I have not run the trail but from the pictures I have seen there are some areas that will cause conflict with the ifs and no locker. But that is what tow staps are for. (I don't think the whole trail is that way). Maybe Rhino can comment.

That is alright about not running desoto. my coworker said he probably wouldn't go anyways. He wants harder trails and to work on recovery.

So why are you calling me a pussy, cause i can't drive fast... That's kinda retarded...

Besides I will have a tow bar, and be driving as fast as i want to.

Maybe if i understood your comment, i could come up with a smart-ass comment??

The trail is very easy. I have done this trail many times in my wifes 89 IFS 4runner. One time I did the trail in 2WD after blowing the front R&P showing off. Her truck has a 4" trail disaster lift and a rear locker. Took the rock toy out last Sat. It was like driving a highway.

Maybe Rhino can comment

yup i can comment, most of the pics from chris V are play areas on the side of the trail, not the actual trail. i have seen many bone stock rigs go through. there are really only 2 spots that would give the stockers a run, and those are the hillclimbs. some of the other stuff that HAS to be driven is on relatively flat ground and is just articulation stuff, so if need be they could keep up some speed. there isnt one single rock on this trail, i said on the trail because there are places to play but you dont have to. this trail is sandy and undulating, bring the more stock guys along we can help them through a couple areas but it wont be a big deal at all.
there does that help??
also the 3+ rating must be including the optional stuff.

I am calling you a pussy because you are worried you might have to spend an hour driving to do 3 hours of wheeling. IT'S A JOKE

K, Ill invite them..
What time are we meeting at? Where at? I know that area, but dont know of a place for everyone to meet at.
I can invite the guy that was late last time, but we would have to meet at the same time as our last run (9-930). He is the stocker that would go, unless I can help another guy with his truck in time.

Think I am gonna pull the top and possibly the doors for this one. Gotta find a place for the spare though.

RHINO
08-13-2002, 07:02 PM
hell yeah anyone who wants to come is welcome!!! my best friend drives a "burban on the rocks", cant miss it its got zebra stripes.

a meeting time/place, i was planning on 9 because of last time, but it dont matter to me i dont care the time. i'm sure we will travel in little packs, me and elf will be comming up pima i think, probly the best place to meet up would be the parking lot pay station that you have to go through at bartlett lake.

I've got an open seat, TRD.

edit: bring some goggles...

RHINO
08-14-2002, 04:29 PM
no prob TRD, i think we will have plenty of seats, just depends who you want to ride with, elf has a 40, you'll probly want to ride with him eh? will your buddy be down the w/e?

TRD
08-14-2002, 05:01 PM
Todd won't be here this weekend, He will be comming down durring the week to move here. I will see if he wants to come early but i think he has to work.

I think I will ride the elf cruiser to get the "full rockwell experience".

When and where are we meeting? Should I bring some beer? (sorry I don't ahve a cooler anymore though)

Ryan

elf_cruiser
08-14-2002, 05:18 PM
We are meeting at a dirt lot at the corner of Pima Rd. and Bell. RHINO has to find out what time is good for some other peeps, but we are thinking around 8pm. I'm serious about the goggles BTW. I drove around today with your normal safety goggles, taht worked pretty well. I will have lexan soon, but not this weekend. I don't drink on the trail, but bring beer for yourself, if you want. Let me know, i have a cooler, and i will pick up ice, and strap it down in the back if you want me to.

Later!

edit: I think i will bring my video camera, so be prepared to run tape, hehe. Just at the good parts though. I want to see this wash that is off to the side...

RHINO
08-14-2002, 07:41 PM
TRD probly best to go to taylors house like last time, and you can ride with him to meet up with us. i'll call and let him know to expect you about 7pm if that sounds good to you.

So 8pm at a dirt lot at Pima and Bell? What corner is this dirt lot at?
Anyone know if its illegal to drive on public roads with the doors off? Might end up doing that for fun.

elf_cruiser
08-14-2002, 09:38 PM
i don't think it's illegal 86toy. I drove past a few cops today with no doors, top, or windshield, and they didn't pull me over... Driving with goggles on KICKS ASS!!!

well... not really

tALL bASTARD
08-14-2002, 09:42 PM
Yeah, the big thing I am concerned about is that you have a little sill to keep stuff from flying out and I dont, so I dont know if there is a law against that or not.

elf_cruiser
08-14-2002, 09:47 PM
Ahhh, i doubt it. I have a list of regulations for pass vehicles, and doors is not on the list. I see what you mean, but i wouldn't worry about it. If i can get by with no W/S, you will be fine.

W/S and wipers ARE on the list, hehehe.

Cool thanks, Now if I can just be sure that I can keep my gf from sticking her foot out of the door to try and stop us from tipping Ill be all set... Damn gf's... Cant complain, at least she is trying to understand my hobbies. (Maybe now she'll understand why my truck makes so much noise and sometimes lurches when I turn).

RHINO
08-14-2002, 09:57 PM
nope nothing the cops will get you for, me and elf are gonna meet at the dirt lot and drive north together.
AZ86 the dirt lot me and elf are meeting at is at the 101 and pima rd. south east corner,,you can meet there too if you want but its kinda out of the way for you guys. do you know how to get to bartlett lake? there is a parking lot pay station that you have to go through to get to the lake(and trail) and i figure we could all ultimitely meet there, either way is fine by me.

elf_cruiser
08-14-2002, 10:00 PM
pay station

Is there an entry fee? If so, no biggy, i just hate carrying cash...

RHINO
08-14-2002, 10:03 PM
there is a user fee for the lake and facilities, they call it a parking pass, we will not be parking and the trail comes out the other side, so no, you dont HAVE to pay, but its $4 per truck if you WANT to.

tALL bASTARD
08-14-2002, 10:33 PM
Yeah, I know how to get to the lake. Ive been there once but it was at 1 in the morning about 4 years ago and I wasnt really paying attention to things, (was there with different motives;) gotta love the good times in HS).
I think I recall a little area with a pay station though. Ill just meet you guys there. What time would you be arriving at the pay station so I can meet at that time?

tALL bASTARD
08-14-2002, 10:37 PM
Oh yeah... The Tonto Forest pay stations I have used accept debit or credit cards, dunno about that one specifically. Just throwing it out there.

pmurf1
08-14-2002, 10:52 PM
I'm not going, but just for fairness sake you need to clarify the meeting spot. I live in MMR, so the parking lot you're talking about is "old" Bell road right? It's actually Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd. past Scottsdale Rd., not Bell. Bell is an actual street up here though, right by the Alltel Ice Den. There is a kind of dirt lot there due to all the construction, but nothing real organized.

It's easier to have everyone meet out at the Bartlett lake turnoff at Carefree highway and bartlett lake road IMO. Plenty of parking and easy to set up a rendezvous time. Believe it or not, I'd go, but my junk isn't up to snuff since the Hammers.

By the way, you don't need to pay any fees.

Sounds good. That is off 39th right (or 35th) can't remember.

Elf- I will bring some glasses (how do those work) or I can stop by the body shop and get riding goggles from my truck.

I won't bring beer, just gas money.

elf_cruiser
08-15-2002, 01:16 PM
i would suggest the riding goggles. I have a spare set of safety goggles, but they are kinda scratched. Not as important for you, though, cause you don't have to see where we're going. lol.

Ohh, and forget the gas $$. Bring water and some chips/crackers/junk food. What if i break an axle, and we end up stranded all night long...?

RHINO
08-15-2002, 03:39 PM
hey pmurf1: just me and elf are meeting there, and we talked so he is clear, we are not meeting at bell rd, yes bell rd. but the next light north of bell, where you turn on pima, and there is a large dirt lot right there on the south east corner area. elf is clear, but thanks for for the input maybe you'll make it next time?

everyone else will be meeting at the pay station for bartlett lake, which is cave creek rd not carefree hwy, dont want any confusion. to get to the lake you have to go through the pay station, cant miss it.

AZ86, when we came out of 7 springs that was cave creek rd. bartlett lake rd. is right up there before the windy part of cave creek rd. and well before it turns to dirt. just follow the bartlett lake signs, you cant miss the pay station since you have to drive through it. i will be at the pay station at 9 pm'ish

TRD yes 39th ave. and he will be expecting you around 7 pm.
