I dont think this has been covered. This weekend i started to assemble my hydro assist.I taped the box(hehe), mounted the ram and ran the lines. While i was bleading the system, and as the ram started to take fluid it became ovious that i had the lines on the box in the wrong place. So i went under the vehicle to inspect and change the lines around, and noticed that each of my fittings were coming apart at the farrels. They dident come all the way apart ,but they kinda calked to the side and began to leak!So it being to late to get new fittings i had to remove the tapped box and put the original one back on:mad: My question is are the Brass fittings supplied by the vendor (will remain unnamed for now)for this peticular project not up to the task? After a little research im finding out that brass is only good for a few hundred LBS (so i here?),and the more i look into it,it seems i should use steel fittings. So do i need to call and bitch at someone or did just get a bunch of shitty fittings?......Thanks

No offense but it sounds to me like you over tightened the fittings if you are using compression fittings. If the ferrule is now cocked and leaking and was strait upon assembly I'd say it is over tightened- they only need to be "snugged" to obtain a good seal.

Are you sure they are brass and not zinc plated steel?
I used the Rockstomoer kit and I too got one of the fittings somehow cocked when tightening and I wasn't reaming on them either. They don't leak so I haven't messed with them.

Well after dooing a little research and calling around it would apear that you should never use brass on the pressure side of a hydrolic system. It can only be used on the return side! I may have overtightened a bit but it is unlikly that that was the cause of them breakink.I just wish the guy hew sold them to me dident.O'well byer be ware!

I wouldn't claim to be the best speller in the world.......but come on guys.....use spell check or something!!!
Good topic though....anyone made their own kit willing to share how and where to drill box???
I got my hoses for full hydro put together by a local hose and line shop. They made me up some 3K lines with brass fittings on the ends. This is a damn good reputable shop and they chose brass. Not only do I trust the shop but my system dosent leak.
I dont think it is the brass. I think it is somehting else.

Ditto...........The Lake Rat sent me brass to, I have the box on with the hydro lines blocked off till I mount the ram....no leaks, it's not the brass's fault, and my 90* fitting are brass, cause I had to grind the edge to fit them on the box.

Actually Seabass everything is steel except the 90's they are brass colored but they are steel. The only reason i include the the brass 90's is because they just seem to work better on the ram than the steel 90's.
