Probably should try and pretend to stick to one flavor of gun project at a time, but ADD and Saturday morning babysitting while the wife's at work (I can websurf and watch the kidlet, but can't make anything useful with a kidlet in one arm, and can't leave her alone while I go make stuff), and I ran across:

Anybody ever built one off of a kit? Do reproduction Suomi receivers or US-made compliance parts exist? Anybody got a CAD model of a Suomi receiver ( ) ?

The long barrel allowed for accurate fire at short ranges during WW2.

Even Switzerland copied the design for their own use.

But this would be even cooler to make if you had great fab skills:

Fab skills? Some days, sort of; other days, I'm just a bumbling monkey. What is it?

I have nothing to add other than I was pondering those kits this morning.

Prexis appears to have 80% receivers, but what parts they have are pretty spendy. $170 for the 80%, $215 for a new semi-only bolt, although there appear to be less-expensive options (but they're the only receiver source I've found so far).

I haven't found any "I built one..." reviews/reports on the Suomis at all. :(

Militarygunsupply.com has Suomi kits that include a magazine, for the same price as the Copes kits that don't appear to. They also have the 71rd drum mags.

The pricetag of the Prexis 80% is a healthy turnoff, though--best-case, it's a $400-in-parts homebuild, and looking like it'd likely end up more expensive than a basic AR. That makes it somewhat less cool. :(

Thats because people buy Suomi kits for the barrel, magwell (sometimes) and magazines and put the rest of the kit in the closet.

For a long time you could get a Soumi for 19$ with every kit you ordered from CFS.
I think I have a couple dozen in a box somewhere.

There is a HUGE thread on building the sumi on Weaponeer. Great way to spend the day reading.

Madsen Model 1950 or 1946 not sure which one.

The Brazilians made a copy in .45.
One such example was presented to a US General, I will find out the name later.
