I am going to start a yj build after the first of the year. I am collecting parts before I start this one. So far I have a 92 yj with the 4.0L. Im going to adapter my th400, 203/205 to it. I have built chevy 1 tons and 40s. Im going to run air shock and a 4 link rear but was wanting to run leaves up front if possible to save money since this its just a trail truck. However, I want to get it as low as possible. Therefore, I am going to have to figure out how to french in leaf spring in the front and this seems to be a little harder because of the spring mount width of the fullwidth?. Any ideas. I will be running a stock yj hybrid pack but this will not be nearly low enough with the soa set up.

I dont want to do a shackle reverse. Also, when approaching something does your axle not move backwards since that rear mount slides?

Scroll down to the chart right below the axle BOM ID. It says 32" I thought it was 31.5 as well. I will have to measure when I get home. whats stock yj perch width. 30" correct?

What is the wheelbase going to be? I am curious if the doubler will cause rear driveshaft issues.

Chevy's are 32" Dodge is 31.5" I have a Chevy D60 and it measures exactly 32" Center to Center.

This is my concern. I think the frame center is 30" and I will not do a shackle reverse. I guess im going to have to get creative...

Custom frame, built to CJ dimensions.

Waggy axles (not quite full width, but they have the same spring perch width)

XJ shackles up front

BDS 2 inch lift YJ springs

As low as you can go with a spring over and high steer :shaking:

Im not building a custom frame so that doesnt help. But thanks

yeah but you just asked for ideas and just because he built a custom frame doesn't mean there aren't some ideas about "frenching" the spring mounts. for the front on mine i intend to box the front portion of the frame, run a hole saw through it, tube it and bushing, or you could do the cup style as shown in the "custom" frame pictures

I cant used any of his ideas because a yj frame is wider than a cj as im sure you know. Thererfore, I cant fully outboard my springs. The mounts are going to have to be pushed out yet still remain under the frame in some way due to the chevy mounts being 2" wider than stock

If you decided to do a shackle reversal you could easily put the shackle threw the frame with some spacers and get it to work.

yeah, but i just thought that was cool, if youre gonna do all that work? why not just link it?

Cost wise. Links are still a possiblility but this isnt nearly as much work as a front 4 link...Also, i will be running bastard yj springs up front so there is no money n the suspension hardly at all

ok, i see where you're coming from. with my experience form yj srpings, they dont' really handle real abuse. maybe look into some double wrapped springs?

Im sure I will. Probly go with the full traction 0" lift springs. Factory yj measurements but made for SOA with mil-wraps..

Pharmteck: How did you mount your rear springs? Also, are you going to run more bracing on the front set up?

JMO, but I would use a solid spacer on top and bottom of the shackle instead of having gone side bent. It would be stronger. I'm running a cut-down Chevy 44 in front and, because my pads were slightly wider than the OE CJ's, I had to do the same thing. In fact, I just used washers...been working fine for several years.
