Actually they never left.....Bears!!

This weekend there was a bunch of bear activity on the con!

Thursday night we were camped above the box next to spider...and just after dark a bear showed up at the camp next to us....(tipover)

He tore open his camping box (rubbermaid tought tote) and ate some food and carried the box into the trees.

We chased him away and he kept coming back until 4 in the morning! This bear was not afraid of people, very persistant he even climbed into Tipover's zuk!

We chased him off more than a dozen times with out any luck!

That same night at loon, a bear went into some friends camp and ate some food and rummage through an ice chest......

I also heard that there were 2 bears at the springs this weekend getting into things......

Be careful!!! They are out there, and they dont mind people any more!

We also had a problem with a racoon coming into our camp all night long.....All of us had lockable boxes for food but they still kept coming!

This must be the greenies terrorist plan to cause problems on the Rubicon.

They probably transplanted the bears from Yosemite after they went through their little boot camp for picknic basket smashing.

So my plan of scattering hot dogs up there to attract the bears away from our camp at Buck Island worked! :flipoff2:

I have never been to the con. but I will tell yah a Minnesota Boundry Waters thing to do. We run rope between two trees maybe 20 feet up and when not eating the food and such goes up. Bears can't get to it. Though I have heard bears are getting smart and cutting the ropes holding food up lol.

I've spent many many months in the BWCAW and love it up there! Hanging food was always the method of choice, and still is for me when backpacking in the Sierra. I've heard though that it's not recommended in Yosemite and other places where the bears are smarter. Bear cannisters is the preferred method. Frankly, I think it's because most people are idiots with rope, and a can is easier to figure out. :D

Oh yeah..... welcome Newbie! :flipoff2:

Will a locked ammo box work for a bear box?

I heard something pretty big around Ellis Creek last week but the only ones we saw were about six in the dumpster at the Tahoe End Parking lot. They took a liking to BoogerWeldz:D
