ok well i not sure if this is even a good idea but id like to ask the pros. i have a stanard 6.5 rubicon express long arm lift. id like to extend the front 3 inchs or so. can i just cut the arms sleve them with smaller tube. butt weld the 2 tubes togather then also plug weld them as well. i would have 3 different welds on each cut of the links. id make the inner tube run pretty sturdy. id like to do the same to the rear to extend it around 7 to 8 inchs.

whats your thoughts on it?

send your RE long arm kit to me, that kit sucks.

Go buy some PVC and glue them together to make some light weight arms. Dont even need to weld!

I'm not saying that it can't be done, but I broke mine at the joint when I tried it. I machined a pc. that was 3/8 thick and press fit into each end and then plug and butt welded it. I came down right on the arm and broke it right at the joint. I say just make you some new arms out of the correct material rather than splicing what you have.

It can be done and I have done it. The lower RE arms are 2" x .25" Chromoly. I extended mine 5 inches and cut them right in the center and slide in a piece of 1.5" x .25" DOM about 18" long and then put in my piece of 2" and plug welded everything and butt welded the outside pieces. Now the cneter 18" s of my control arms are 1/2" think and I have yet to have any issues with them. I did bend the thread pieces on the ends at Clayton a couple weeks ago though.

i cut the arms.. spliced in a 10" section of 2" by .250" wall dom.. internally sleeved the arms with a piece of 1.5" x .120 wall dom (the total length of the new arm).. i had to turn .005" off the wall thickmess (.010" total taken off the OD)of the 1.5" to get it to slide into the RE control arms and the new spliced section.. it was rosette welded. should be stronger than it was before..

Its finished and Bobby is driving it daily still. He has also molested a good amount of the tube work to fit 44's and angle the air shocks towars the center in the back. The only pics I have of the buggy on the trail are from memorial day last year

If you like that, you would have LOVED watching him go running down the side of the mountain, chasing his coil spring every time it fell out

Ditto. I will vouch for this as well. You know it's bad when you get an emoticon named after you and it's the hamburglar.

Seriously though...feel free to PM me for further details if needed.
